Article Synopsis
  • The review aimed to evaluate the effects of pulse modulation technology on laser lithotripsy and prostate enucleation in endourology, focusing on efficiency, safety, and tissue interaction.
  • A systematic search of studies from the last 20 years identified 29 articles that examined these technologies, with preclinical studies showing promise in stone fragmentation but mixed results in clinical settings.
  • While pulse modulation can improve operational efficiency and reduce thermal safety risks, its benefits for prostate surgery outcomes remain inconsistent, yielding comparable rates to standard modalities in terms of stone-free status and complications.

Article Synopsis
  • - Over the last 30 years, miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL) has gained popularity due to its potential to reduce complications compared to standard procedures, but there's still debate over best practices and management strategies that hinders wider use.
  • - An international panel of urology experts developed a consensus document on mPCNL to provide a comprehensive framework for practice, which included reviewing literature, identifying research gaps, and conducting surveys to gather expert opinions.
  • - The study revealed 58 key questions on mPCNL practices, and consensus was achieved on 30 questions, affirming mPCNL as an effective technique for treating upper urinary tract stones in both adults and children.

Background And Objective: The widespread adoption and rapid integration of new technologies and techniques in endoscopic and laser bladder interventions, particularly endoscopic enucleation, have led to new types of bladder injuries. This underscores the need for an intraoperative injury classification system. This study aims to develop and validate the Bladder Injury Classification System for Endoscopic Procedures (BICEP), which standardizes the classification of complications and intervention requirements.

Background: Incontinence and sexual dysfunction are long-lasting side effects after surgical treatment (radical prostatectomy, RP) of prostate cancer (PC). For an informed treatment decision, physicians and patients should discuss expected impairments. Therefore, this paper firstly aims to develop and validate prognostic models that predict incontinence and sexual function of PC patients one year after RP and secondly to provide an online decision making tool.

Purpose Of Review: Flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) has evolved into both diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Our review discusses the cost-effectiveness of single use flexible ureteroscopes (su-fURS) and the use of these instruments in routine urological practice.

Recent Findings: There are studies which support the use of su-fURS with an argument of both cost and clinical utility over reusable flexible ureteroscopes (ru-fURS).

Background: In addition to erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence is the most common functional limitation after radical prostatectomy (RPE) for prostate cancer (PCa). The German S3 guideline recommends informing patients about possible effects of the therapy options, including incontinence. However, only little data on continence from routine care in German-speaking countries after RPE are currently available, which makes it difficult to inform patients.

Purpose: Comparisons of ureteroscopy (URS), extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for urolithiasis considering long-term follow-up are rare. We aimed to analyze re-intervention rates, costs and sick leave days of URS, SWL and PCNL patients within 7 years.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study was based on German health insurance claims data.

In concert with carbonyl compounds, Lewis acids have been identified as a versatile class of photocatalysts. Thus far, research has focused on activation of the substrate, either by changing its photophysical properties or by modifying its photochemistry. In this work, we expand the established mode of action by demonstrating that UV photoexcitation of a Lewis acid-base complex can lead to homolytic cleavage of a covalent bond in the Lewis acid.

In the process of urinary stone formation, several heavy metals and trace elements (HMTE) have been identified among the major constituents of the calculi. The micro-elements within the stones cannot be identified by ordinary laboratory analytical techniques, the latter can only detect the major crystalline component. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the different types of HMTE (no.

We report the non-adiabatic dynamics of VCl(ddpd), a complex based on the Earth-abundant first-row transition metal vanadium with a d electronic configuration which is able to emit phosphorescence in solution in the near-infrared spectral region. Trajectory surface-hopping dynamics based on linear vibronic coupling potentials obtained with CASSCF provide molecular-level insights into the intersystem crossing from triplet to singlet metal-centered states. While the majority of the singlet population undergoes back-intersystem crossing to the triplet manifold, 1-2% remains stable during the 10 ps simulation time, enabling the phosphorescence described in Dorn , 2021, DOI: 10.
