Background: Associated with increasing use of carotid artery stenting (CAS), the occurrence of late complications is likely to rise. The surgical strategies of CAS complications like in-stent-restenosis (ISR) are not yet to be determined. Thus different situations require individual operative techniques.

In the present paper such information is obtained by a combined experimental and theoretical approach.

Possible regulators of integrin-matrix interactions are integrin-binding ADAMs (proteins with a disintegrin- and metalloproteinase-domain), like ADAM-15 and ADAM-9. Molecular interactions between ADAM-15, alpha5beta1, and alphavbeta3 have been demonstrated.
