Silver-111 is an attractive unconventional candidate for targeted cancer therapy as well as for single photon emission computed tomography and can be complemented by silver-103 for positron emission tomography noninvasive diagnostic procedures. However, the shortage of chelating agents capable of forming stable complexes tethered to tumor-seeking vectors has hindered their application so far. In this study, a comparative investigation of a series of sulfur-containing structural homologues, namely, 1,4,7-tris[2-(methylsulfanyl)ethyl)]-1,4,7-triazacyclononane (NO3S), 1,5,9-tris[2-(methylsulfanyl)ethyl]-1,5,9-triazacyclododecane (TACD3S), 1,4,7,10-tetrakis[2-(methylsulfanyl)ethyl]-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclotridecane (TRI4S), and 1,4,8,11-tetrakis[2-(methylsulfanyl)ethyl]-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane (TE4S) was conducted to appraise the influence of different polyazamacrocyclic backbones on Ag complexation.

Is Smaller Better? Cu/Cu Coordination Chemistry and Copper-64 Radiochemical Investigation of a 1,4,7-Triazacyclononane-Based Sulfur-Rich Chelator.

The biologically triggered reduction of Cu to Cu has been postulated as a possible decomplexation pathway in Cu-based radiopharmaceuticals. In an attempt to hinder this phenomenon, we have previously developed a family of S-containing polyazamacrocycles based on 12-, 13-, or 14-membered tetraaza rings able to stabilize both oxidation states. However, despite the high thermodynamic stability of the resulting Cu complexes, a marked [Cu]Cu release was detected in human serum, likely as a result of the partially saturated coordination sphere around the copper center.

Thermal conversion of pineapple crown leaf waste to magnetized activated carbon for dye removal.

Pineapple crown leaf was successfully converted to the magnetized activated carbon (MAC) as an attractive solution to overcome separation problems. The activated carbon (AC) was produced by an innovative method combining KOH activation and microwave heating while the magnetization process was prepared by a co-precipitation method. In this sense, the activation stage was studied at different impregnation ratio.

Open-label study of the efficacy and safety of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose in pregnant women with restless legs syndrome.

Objective: The objective of this study was to test the efficacy and safety of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) in pregnant women with restless legs syndrome (RLS) and iron deficiency or anemia. The open-label pilot study (exploratory) was performed at the University Hospital of Zürich and the Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland (Lugano).

Patient And Methods: Nineteen women in the third trimester of pregnancy with moderate-to-severe RLS and serum ferritin levels <35 µg/l or hemoglobin (Hb) < 11.

A huge mucinous cystadenoma of ovarian: a rare case report and review of the literature.

We report a case of a 63-years-old woman with a ten years history of increasing abdominal girth with associated abdominal pain. Abdomino-pelvic ultrasound and computed tomography scan revealed a large left ovarian cyst. The patient underwent laparotomy, resection of ovarian cyst and hysterectomy with bilateral ovarian resection.

Laparoscopy or laparotomy? A comparison of 240 patients with early-stage endometrial cancer.

Background: This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of laparoscopy and laparotomy in the surgical treatment of early endometrial cancer, especially in obese women.

Methods: The results obtained after laparoscopic surgical treatment of early endometrial cancer (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage 1 or 2) in patients between 1996 and 2007 were compared with an age- and tumour-matched historical group of patients treated with laparotomy between 1988 and 1996. All the patients underwent hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, and pelvic + or - paraaortic lymphadenectomy.
