Study Design: Biomechanical study and review of literature on expandable lumbar interbody fusion constructs.

Objective: To evaluate the biomechanical stability of expandable interbody devices.

Summary Of Background Data: Lumbar interbody implants placed from an anterior or lateral approach are desirable due to their large size, providing a stable fusion environment.

Background: Qualitative assessments of standing plain radiographs are frequently used to determine treatment strategies and assess outcomes for the management of a wide range of foot and ankle conditions in children. A quantitative technique for such analyses would presumably be more precise and reliable. The goal of this study was to compare qualitative and quantitative techniques for the assessment of plain radiographs of the foot and ankle in children with hemiplegic type cerebral palsy (CP).

Background: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head frequently results in collapse of the head and subsequent arthrosis of the joint. Surgical treatment has been based entirely on the evaluation of the femoral side of the hip joint, with little consideration given to the possible influence on outcome of the orientation of the acetabulum.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a consecutive series of 200 hips in 160 patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head who had undergone free vascularized fibular grafting between 1997 and 1998.

Persistent instability or redislocation is uncommon but of significant concern in treating elbow dislocations. Finding an objective, static radiographic sign that might correlate with the presence of instability was the purpose of this study. Pre- and post-reduction radiographs of 10 consecutive simple and complete adult elbow dislocations were reviewed and compared with radiographs of 20 consecutive adult elbows without any trauma history.

The primary hypothesis of this study is that supernumerary slips of the abductor pollicis longus (particularly those slips inserting distal to the trapeziometacarpal joint) increase the risk of trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis on account of increased transarticular forces. Other hypotheses surmised that age and female gender were directly correlated with severity of arthritis. We did cadaveric dissection of the distal first dorsal compartment in 61 specimens, noting the cadaveric age, gender, and number and insertion sites of abductor pollicis longus tendon slips.
