Platinum (Pt)-based heterogeneous catalysts show excellent performance for the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER); however, the high cost and earth paucity of Pt means that efforts are being directed to reducing Pt usage, whilst maximizing catalytic efficiency. In this work, a two-step laser annealing process was employed to synthesize Pt single-atom catalysts (SACs) on a MOF-derived carbon substrate. The laser irradiation of a metal-organic framework (MOF) film (ZIF67@ZIF8 composite) by rapid scanning of a ns pulsed infrared (IR; 1064 nm) laser across the freeze-dried MOF resulted in a metal-loaded graphitized film.

Methods: Four commercially available rotary brushes were used: Labrida BioClean Brush® (LB), i-Brush1 (IB), NiTiBrush Nano (NiTiB), and Peri-implantitis Brush (PIB). Seventy-five titanium discs with sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) surfaces were randomly assigned to five groups (n = 15): LB, IB, NiTiB, PIB, and a control group.
Crown ethers have been shown to have physiological effects ascribed to their ionophoric properties. However, high levels of toxicity precluded interest in their evaluation as therapeutic agents. We prepared new silacrown analogs of crown ethers.

Leishmaniasis is a neglected disease that remains with a limited number of drugs available for chemotherapy and has an increased drug resistance that affects treatment outcomes. Metal-based drugs such as cyclopalladated complex [Pd(dmba)(μ-N)] (CP2), a Leishmania topoisomerase IB inhibitor involved in calcium dysregulation and mitochondrial dysfunction of the parasite, had been an alternative to outline the appearance of chemoresistance. To identify new molecular targets and point out possible resistance mechanisms, a CP2-resistant Leishmania amazonensis (LaR) was selected by stepwise exposure to increasing drug pressure until a line capable of growth in 13.

In recent work, Feng and colleagues report that activation of a lysosomal Ca channel may be a viable option to alleviate oxidative damage by boosting lysosome biogenesis and mitophagy.

However, stability challenges currently limit their practical application. Consequently, alternative methods for increasing the PSC stability are urgently needed.

Here, we investigate the role of a peptide hydrogel in passivating defect sites and improving the stability of methylammonium lead iodide (MAPI, CHNHPbI) using closely controlled, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques under realistic pressures. Optical measurements reveal that a reduction in the density of defect sites is achieved by incorporating peptide into the precursor solution during the conventional one-step MAPI fabrication approach.

American elderberry ( subsp. ) is a rapidly emerging new perennial crop for Missouri, recognized for its high level of bioactive compounds with significant health benefits, including antibacterial, antiviral, and antioxidant properties. A high-throughput screening assay combined with untargeted metabolomics analysis was utilized on American elderberry juice from 21 genotypes to explore and characterize these bioactive compounds.

Evolutionary mismatch theory provides a comprehensive, integrative model for understanding the underlying causes and mechanisms of a wide range of modern health and well-being problems, ranging from obesity to depression. Despite growing interest regarding its importance though, no psychometrically-sound measure of evolutionary mismatch yet exists to facilitate research and intervention.

However, it remains unknown how increasing aridity and livestock grazing pressure-two major drivers of global change-shape the trait covariation that underlies plant phenotypic diversity. Here we assessed how covariation among 20 chemical and morphological traits responds to aridity and grazing pressure within global drylands.

Using data from a large sample of clients (N = 4,432,440) of an online dating company spanning 317 states nested within 23 countries, we contributed a robust multilevel analysis of life history effects by assessing the interaction between state-level PD and individual-level income on offspring quantity, and we further qualified this analysis by sex. Consistent with previous research, PD was negatively correlated with having children.

This study investigates the airflow patterns and ventilation characteristics of a UCA operating theatre (OT) under standard ventilation system operating conditions, considering both empty and partially occupied scenarios. Utilising a precise computational model, quasi-Direct Numerical Simulations (qDNS) were conducted to delineate flow velocity profiles, energy spectra, distributions of turbulent kinetic energy, energy dissipation rate, local Kolmogorov scales, and pressure-based coherent structures.

Endothelial cells (ECs), especially in arterioles, are pivotal for flow distribution and peripheral resistance regulation. Investigating vascular endothelium physiology, particularly in microvascular ECs, demands precise isolation and culturing techniques.

They are functionally significant for numerous ecosystem services, most notably in the C fixation and storage due to the ubiquity of photosynthetic microbes. Whereas carbon fixation and storage have been well studied in biocrusts, the composition, function and characteristics of other organisms in the biocrust such as heterotrophic bacteria and especially fungi are considerably less studied and this limits our ability to gain a holistic understanding of biocrust ecology and function.

This study examined preliminary effects of American elderberry (Sambucus nigra subsp. canadensis) juice on cognition and inflammatory markers in patients with MCI.
