Forgetting the fundoscope - A case of fulminant idiopathic intracranial hypertension causing rapid visual loss.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a syndrome of elevated intracranial pressure without evidence of intracranial mass lesion or venous thrombosis, and bland cerebrospinal fluid examination. It mostly affects overweight women of childbearing age and if left untreated, can lead to permanent visual loss. Visual decline in this condition is generally slow, over months to years.

Treatment adherence after penetrating corneal transplant in a New Zealand population from 2000 to 2009.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the extent of nonadherence after penetrating keratoplasty in Auckland, New Zealand, over a 10-year period and to identify predictive variables.

Methods: The New Zealand National Eye Bank records were analyzed for the decade January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2009, inclusive. Variables evaluated included age, gender, ethnicity, proximity to treatment center, level of deprivation, indication for surgery, previous ocular surgery.

A rare case of cholesterol granuloma in the anterior mediastinum.

Cholesterol granulomas are reactant lesions that develop in response to cholesterol crystals and foreign body giant cells. They are a commonly described benign condition affecting the middle ear and paranasal sinuses, however have been reported in various sites within the body. We describe a rare case of an incidental cholesterol granuloma in the anterior mediastinum of a cardiac surgical patient.
