Correlation of Levator-Muller's Complex Thickness on Ultrasound Biomicroscopy to Botulinum Toxin A Injection in Thyroid-Related Upper Eyelid Retraction.

Objectives: To study the thickness of levator palpebra superioris-Muller's muscle complex (LMC) on ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) and to correlate with the clinical response to botulinum toxin A (BTA) injection in patients with inactive-stage of thyroid-related upper eyelid retraction (UER). We also studied the correlation of clinical parameters, preinjection with postinjection values.

Methods: This was a prospective, interventional study.

Background: Tooth extraction is generally accompanied by bone remodeling and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus in the posterior region of the maxilla, which can result in a reduction in the height and width of the bone and compromise the placement of the implant. However, this anatomic deficiency can be restored through maxillary sinus elevation. Among the various surgical methods used, the indirect sinus floor elevation technique is relatively less invasive and less complex.

Infective Endocarditis Following Chicken Pox: A Rare Association.

A 38-year old immunocompetent male presented to us with chicken pox complicated by development of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) and left-sided native valve endocarditis due to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This was further complicated by embolization to various vital organs including the brain. The patient was treated with vancomycin for four weeks but did not respond to the treatment.

Dental management of Rapp-Hodgkin syndrome associated with oral cleft and hypodontia.

Rapp-Hodgkin syndrome (RHS) is a rare type of autosomal dominant disorder characterized by association of ectodermal dysplasia (ED) with cleft lip/palate. The main features include dry, brittle hair with alopecia in adulthood, dental anomalies (hypodontia, microdontia with delayed eruption, fissured tongue, and retruded maxilla), hypohidrosis, dysplastic nails, and clefting. Palmar-plantar keratoderma is seen frequently.

Highly efficient neutralization by plasma antibodies from human immunodeficiency virus type-1 infected individuals on antiretroviral drug therapy.

Little is known about the neutralizing antibodies induced in HIV-1 patients on antiretroviral treatment, which constitute an interesting group of individuals with improved B cell profile. Plasma samples from 34 HIV-1 seropositive antiretroviral drug treated (ART) patients were tested for neutralization against a panel of 14 subtype-A, B and C tier 1 and tier 2 viruses in TZM-bl assay. Of the 34 plasma samples, remarkably all the plasma samples were able to neutralize at least one virus while 32 (94 %) were found to neutralize ≥50 % viruses tested.

Diagnosis and management of occlusal wear: a case report.

The rationale for doing full mouth rehabilitation are, when occlusal forces become traumatic hampering the health of periodontal tissues, extensive occlusal diseases, trauma, temporomandibular joint disease and congenital disorders with malformed dentition. Literature exposes that full mouth fixed rehabilitation is one of the taxing procedures in the field of Prosthodontics. A critical aspect for successful occlusal rehabilitation is to determine the aetiology, correct sequence of treatment and most importantly the occlusal vertical dimension and centric relation in which to plan the treatment.

Complete mucostatic impression: a new attempt.

Hypermobile ridges or flabby edentulous ridges are a common occurrence in edentulous patients. The literature reveals that the mucostatic impression technique is one of the treatment options in this scenario. Conventional mucostatic methods like employing a window tray technique, multiple relief holes, or double spacers can be employed when the flabby tissue is localized.

Prosthetic rehabilitation of postsurgical nasomaxillary hypoplasia for a patient following reconstructive surgery: a clinical report.

Repairs of the cleft nose, lip, and palatal deformity remain challenging endeavors for reconstructive surgeons. Postsurgical nasomaxillary hypoplasia is a common finding in patients with extensive clefts. This complex deformity has a pronounced impact on the social behavior and self image of the subject.
