Materials And Methods: Fifty primary first and second molars were collected for this study. All the teeth were randomly divided into five groups ( = 10).

A series of semi-IPNs, obtained via thermal initiated polymerization of NiPAAm, were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), dynamic viscoelastic measurements, wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), and mechanical properties. Swelling behavior of cylindrical gels showed that, irrespective of the hydrated or dehydrated state of the gel, the rate of swelling was the highest in water. When the gels were exposed to water, they first showed a swelling phase in which their weight increased 3 and 30 times for hydrated and dehydrated gels, respectively, due to absorption of water, followed by a dissolution phase.

This protocol involves treating commercially available (R)- or (S)-menthyl p-toluenesufinate (Andersen reagent 4) with LiHMDS, followed by the aldehyde, affording (E)-10 exclusively. The sulfinimines 10 are formed via a Peterson-type olefination reaction of silylsulfinamide anion 13 with the aldehyde.
