Background: Obtaining percutaneous vascular access in hemodynamically unstable patients with constricted vessels can be challenging. Training combat medics in this procedure is necessary for administration of fluid and blood products and introducing endovascular bleeding control tools in pre-hospital settings. Echogenic coated needles might provide better ultrasound visibility in invasive procedures and hereby lower complications.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-six combat medics were randomized into two groups: One group performed a two-incision lower leg fasciotomy with the assistance of an HMD, while the control group completed the procedure without guidance. A Mann-Whitney U test was used to determine the possible differences in release of compartments and performance scores, as assessed by a supervising medical specialist.

Materials: All non-trauma patients receiving a computed tomography angiography (CT-A) scan of the aorta, iliac bifurcation and common femoral arteries from 2017 to 2019 were eligible for inclusion.

Using 16S ribosomal RNA-based sequencing, we evaluated the relationship between the NP and middle ear fluid (MEF) microbiota in children with AOM with tympanostomy tubes (AOMT) as a proxy for AOM and explored whether microbiota profiling predicts natural disease course.
Methods: Microbiota profiles of paired NP and MEF samples of 94 children below 5 years of age with uncomplicated AOMT were determined.

Purpose Of Review: One in two children treated with tympanostomy tubes, experience episodes of otorrhea whilst their tubes are in place. In this review, we present the results of the most recent publications on prevention and treatment of tympanostomy tube otorrhea (TTO).
Recent Findings: Recent systematic reviews on water precautions for children with tympanostomy tubes support the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery guideline recommendation against such preventive measures as there is no evidence that it protects against TTO.
Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer and colorectal surgery is the treatment of choice in local disease. Anastomotic leakage following colorectal surgery is a major complication with a high incidence and mortality. Adjuvant hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) may be associated with reduction of anastomotic leakage.

Our objective was to assess and compare the use of -80°C frozen blood products in combination with the different transfusion protocols and their effect on the outcome of trauma casualties.
Materials And Methods: Hemovigilance and combat casualties data from Afghanistan 2006-2010 for 272 (military) trauma casualties with or without massive transfusions (MT: ≥6 RBC/24hr, N = 82 and non-MT: 1-5 RBC/24hr, N = 190) were analyzed retrospectively.
Background: Ear discharge (otorrhoea) is common in children with grommets (ventilation/tympanostomy tubes); the proportion of children developing discharge ranges from 25% to 75%. The most common treatment strategies include oral broad-spectrum antibiotics, antibiotic eardrops or those containing a combination of antibiotic(s) and a corticosteroid, and initial observation. Important drivers for one strategy over the other are concerns over the side effects of oral antibiotics and the potential ototoxicity of antibiotic eardrops.
