At our laboratory, research has focused on the development of Myrothecium gramineum as a novel expression host. The glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gpd)-promoter of M. gramineum was isolated and characterized (Genbank accession number EF486690).

This sequence was analysed and, remarkably, it is the first OMPD gene of a Sordariomycete that has an intron. The gene codes for an enzyme of 282 amino acids.
