Background: Little attention has been paid to neurotoxicants on the risk of dementia. Exposure to known neurotoxicants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organochlorine (OC) pesticides is suspected to have adverse cognitive effects in older populations.
Objective: To assess whether plasma concentrations of PCBs and OC pesticides are associated with the risk of cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and of all-cause dementia in the Canadian older population.
Background: Several studies have reported the implication of HLA-DR/DQ loci in the susceptibility to type 1 diabetes (T1D). Since no such study has yet been performed in Benin, this pilot one aimed at assessing HLA class II allele, haplotype, and genotype associations with T1D.
Material And Methods: Class II HLA genotyping was performed in 51 patients with T1D and 51 healthy unrelated controls by means of the PCR-SSP method.

In order to obtain a global measure of persistent organic pollutants in plasma that interact with this signalling pathway, we used a luciferase reporter gene assay to assess the AhR-mediated transcriptional activity elicited by plasma sample extracts from 874 Inuit adults who were recruited in the course of a prospective epidemiological study conducted in Nunavik (Québec, Canada). Several sociodemographic, anthropometric, dietary and lifestyle variables were considered as possible modulating factors of the AhR-mediated activity in multivariate statistical analyses.
