The potential of mass spectrometry imaging, and especially ToF-SIMS 2D and 3D imaging, for submicrometer-scale, label-free molecular localization in biological tissues is undisputable. Nevertheless, sensitivity issues remain, especially when one wants to achieve the best lateral and vertical (nanometer-scale) resolution. In this study, the interest of in situ matrix transfer for tissue analysis with cluster ion beams (Bi, Ar) is explored in detail, using a series of six low molecular weight acidic (MALDI) matrices.

Purpose: The neurotomy of musculocutaneous nerve is a treatment for patients who suffer from spastic elbow flexion when medical and reeducative treatments have failed. It consists in sectioning motor branches of musculocutaneous nerve which are destined to the biceps brachii and brachialis muscles, both being the main elbow flexor muscles. The aim of this study was to analyse the distance, where each motor branch arises from the musculocutaneous nerve to both biceps brachii and brachialis muscles, to establish precisely the localisation and length of the necessary incision to reach its branches for surgery.

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Pa) is a Gram-negative bacteria frequently involved in healthcare-associated pneumonia with poor clinical outcome. To face the announced post-antibiotic era due to increasing resistance and lack of new antibiotics, new treatment strategies have to be developed. Immunomodulation of the host response involved in outcome could be an alternative therapeutic target in Pa-induced lung infection.
