Objectives: This study aimed to support the implementation of the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11). We used common comorbidity indices as a case study for proactively assessing the impact of transitioning to ICD-11 for mortality and morbidity statistics (ICD-11-MMS) on real-world data analyses.
Materials And Methods: Using the MIMIC IV database and a table of mappings between the clinical modification of previous versions of ICD and ICD-11-MMS, we assembled a population whose diagnosis can be represented in ICD-11-MMS.
Background: This study investigated the association between periodontitis and organic erectile dysfunction (ED) in a sub-Saharan population.
Methods: This multicenter analytical study lasted from April to September 2021. A total of 114 patients (38 cases and 76 controls) were recruited and matched on age, diabetes, and smoking status.
Introduction: Firearm injuries to the lower urinary tract are injuries resulting from an energy transfer from a projectile fired by a firearm or a blast from a firearm, to the bladder, prostate, urethra and terminal ureter. Our objective was to describe the epidemiological and diagnostic aspects in the context of a security crisis.
Patients And Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of lower urinary tract firearm injuries at Sominé Dolo Hospital in Mopti from January 2017 to December 2021.
Drought severity is expected to increase in South Africa in the coming years, given the deteriorating effects of climate change on rainfall patterns, global temperature, and evaporation. A common mitigation strategy adopted by households is to promote water demand management initiatives to reduce water consumption volume and complement existing water supply management approaches implemented by suppliers. This study contributes to the discussion on adaptation strategies by investigating household preference heterogeneity for water-saving technologies through empirical evidence from urban Cape Town, South Africa.

Purpose: To investigate the association of sleep duration and quality at 12 months and myopia at 3 years.
Design: Cohort study.
Methods: The Growing Up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes (GUSTO) birth cohort recruited pregnant women at 2 major public maternity hospitals (n = 1236).
Study Design: This is a retrospective cohort comparative study of all patients who underwent instrumented spine surgery at a single institution.
Objective: To compare the rate of surgical site infection (SSI) between the treatment (vancomycin) and the control group (no vancomycin) in patients undergoing instrumented spine surgery.
Summary Of Background Data: SSI after spine surgery is a dreaded complication associated with increased morbidity and mortality.
Purpose: To review the outcome of unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in patients with bilateral knee osteoarthritis (OA) to determine whether unilateral TKA can achieve good health-related quality of life (HRQoL).
Methods: Records of 68 women and 25 men with severe bilateral knee OA who underwent unilateral TKA on the more symptomatic knee by a single surgeon and did not return for the second TKA within 2 years were reviewed. Outcome at 6 months and 2 years was assessed using the mental and physical component summary (MCS and PCS) of the Short-Form 36 (SF-36) for HRQoL as well as the Oxford Knee Score (OKS) and Knee Society Score (KSS) for knee-specific outcome.
Black bone disease refers to the hyperpigmentation of bone secondary to prolonged usage of minocycline. We present a report of a 34-year-old man who underwent femoral shaft fracture fixation complicated by deep infection requiring debridement. The implants were removed 10 months later after long-term treatment with minocycline and fracture union.

However, the overall burden of influenza in this context is poorly defined and incidence data for African countries are scarce. We therefore studied the fever syndrome incidence and more specifically influenza incidence in a cohort of inhabitants of Dielmo and Ndiop in Sokone district, Senegal.

Introduction: High performing clinical decision rules (CDRs) have been derived to predict which head-injured child requires a computed tomography (CT) of the brain. We set out to evaluate the performance of these rules in the Singapore population.
Materials And Methods: This is a prospective observational cohort study of children aged less than 16 who presented to the emergency department (ED) from April 2014 to June 2014 with a history of head injury.
Little is known about the biological, epidemiological, and clinical risk factors for thrombosis and venous thromboembolism (VTE) among Black Africans. We undertook a study of the prevalence of VTE risk factors for thrombosis in a Senegalese population. A three-year cross-sectional and case-control study involving 105 cases and 200 controls was conducted in various hospitals in Dakar (Senegal).

The network has recently been enhanced (i) to include epidemiological data from Dakar and other regions and (ii) to extend virological surveillance to other respiratory viruses. Epidemiological data from the sentinel sites is transmitted daily by mobile phone.

The objectives of this article were to report Senegalese experience on the management of haemophilia care through 18 years of follow-up. This cohort study included 140 patients (127 haemophilia A, 13 haemophilia B), followed in Dakar's haemophilia treatment centre from 1995 to 2012.

Several genetic factors have been shown to have predicative value for chronic complications but these data are not always available. The purpose of this study was to assess the value of sociodemographic and clinicobiological features in predicting chronic complications.

In Senegal, malaria transmission is high during rainy season, between July and October, and it was noted that sickle-cell crisis are frequent during this period. Then we carried out a double-blind randomized controlled trial to compare the impact of monthly sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine (SP) during the high-transmission season versus placebo on malaria incidence and morbidity of sickle-cell anemia.

Background And Aim: Using of safety blood products did not stop improving these last years. The use of effective methods as well immunologicals as virologicals ones really reduces risk associated to blood transfusion. However, it persists residual risk (RR) of transfusion transmitted viral diseases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Malaria is a real public health problem in Africa; more than 300 million new cases and approximately two million deaths arise every year. In spite of the blood transfusion is a potential way of Plasmodium transmission, there is no consensus for measures to prevent post-transfusion malaria in endemic area. This work aimed at comparing some tools and to discuss various strategies to be implemented.

Its sudden onset suggests precipitating factors.
Objective: To investigate the putative role of human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) in the pathogenesis of ketosis-prone DM-2.
Monoclonal gammapathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) has rarely been reported in African literature. The purpose of this article is to describe 3 cases of MGUS observed in women aged 63, 54, and 44 years in Senegal. All three patients had previously documented autoimmune disease, i.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, we evaluated quality of life and depression among Senegalese patients receiving efavirenz- or protease inhibitor (PI)-based regimens. Two hundred consecutive patients who had been taking highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for more than 6 months were asked to complete a questionnaire.
Introduction: Known since over than seventy years, von willebrand disaese is the most common herediary bleeding disorder. This condition was first described by Pr. Willebrand in 1926 in a family with (positive) history of excesive bleeding tendency.
