A high risk patient with evisceration underwent to abdominal wall reconstruction without mesh or drains. We present a case of a 62 years-old female patient with a significant medical history of Wilson's disease-related hepatopathy Child-Pugh class B classification, sequelae of a stroke, and relevant surgical background including total hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and Hartmann's procedure for ovarian neoplasm stage 3. The patient developed a large incisional hernia in the midline incision while undergoing Bevacizumab (Avastin) treatment for clinical oncology.

Indolizines fused with a seven-member lactone ring were identified as a promising scaffold in the search for new anticancer agents. Through a modular synthetic sequence, a library of and indolizines lactones had their antiproliferative activity evaluated against hormone-refractory prostate DU-145 and triple-negative breast MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines. A methoxylated analogue was identified as an initial hit against MDA-MB-231 and late-stage functionalization of the indolizine core led to analogues within potencies up to twenty times higher than the parent precursor.

Introduction: Pulmonary rehabilitation is a treatment option for physical functional problems that persist after pharmacological treatment for tuberculosis; however, the results of primary studies on the subject are inconclusive.

Composite methods are the combination of ab initio calculations used to achieve high precision in the face of a computational reduction. Weizmann-n theories (n = 1, 2, 3, and 4) stand out for presenting a high precision, and a version of the W1 theory is the W1BD theory that uses ab initio Brueckner Doubles (BD) methods. One way to reduce the computational cost of composite methods and maintain accuracy is to use pseudopotentials in the calculation steps; in this context, W1BDCEP composite method was developed from the respective W1BD all-electron version by considering the implementation of compact effective pseudopotential (CEP).

Monitoring biodiversity change is key to effective conservation policy. While it is difficult to establish biodiversity monitoring programs at broad geographical scales, remote sensing advances allow for near-real time Earth observations that may help with this goal. We combine periodical and freely available remote sensing information describing temperature and precipitation with curated biological information from several groups of animals and plants in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest to design an indirect remote sensing framework that monitors potential loss and gain of biodiversity in near-real time.

American visceral leishmaniasis (AVL) is a zoonosis caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania. In Brazil, the disease is caused by Leishmania infantum and the main vector is the phlebotomine sandfly Lutzomyia longipalpis, found both in natural ecotopes and in the rural and urban environments, being very well adapted to the peridomestic environment. The domestic dog has been incriminated as the main reservoir of the parasite in the urban environment, but the control measures based on culling seropositive dogs have not shown to be effective to contain the spread of the disease throughout the country.

The scope of this article is to evaluate the effects of a mixed protocol of physical exercises on cardiovascular risk (CVR), quality of life and the presence of depressive symptoms in elderly hypertensive patients. It involved a longitudinal, prospective and quasi-experimental study with 48 elderly individuals. A physical exercise protocol was developed for 16 weeks according to American College of Sports Medicine, and anthropometric variables (weight, height, body mass index and waist circumference), as well as biochemical variables (total cholesterol, LDL-c, HDL-c; triglycerides) were evaluated.

Sequential one-pot 2-iodoxybenzoic acid (IBX) oxidation of Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) adducts followed by catalyst-free indolizine conjugate addition was developed. The wide scopes of MBH adducts and indolizines were investigated, and densely functionalized adducts were obtained in yields of up to 94%. The conjugate addition step occurred in less than a minute at room temperature with total regioselectivity toward indolizine C3 carbon.

Macrophyte net primary productivity (NPP) is a significant but understudied component of the carbon budget in large Amazonian floodplains. Annual NPP is determined by the interaction between stem elongation (vertical growth) and plant cover changes (horizontal expansion), each affected differently by flood duration and amplitude. Therefore, hydrological changes as predicted for the Amazon basin could result in significant changes in annual macrophyte NPP.

Background And Importance: A variety of deconstructive and reconstructive therapies have been used to treat intracranial aneurysms. The Pipeline embolization device (PED) has become a quite successful option to treat aneurysms, while reconstructing and remodeling the parent vessel. We report a case of off-label PED use, where a flow diverter was placed across the parent vessel of a giant intracranial aneurysm in a novel deconstructive strategy.
