Purpose: This study utilized cone-beam computed tomography images to assess the potential of maxillary sinus (MS) and piriform aperture (PA) measurements in sex prediction and to identify possible correlations between these structures and the MS ostium.
Methods: A total of 204 images were selected and divided into two groups: 102 for constructing and testing the formula, and 102 for validation. In each subgroup, the images were equally divided for 11 measurements by two examiners in the MS (height, width, length, and total width), PA (height and width), and maxillary ostium diameter.
Objectives: To analyze the differences in cusp height on radiographs, establishing proportional relationships between cusp and alveolar bone crest (ABC) measurements. The goal of this study was to develop a correction coefficient by considering this proportion.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-one artificial teeth, molars and premolars, and bovine ribs were used.
Background: The use of panoramic radiography (PR) is a complementary examination to aid in the diagnosis of cases in paediatric dentistry. The lack of specific protocols for these devices, however, can result in high doses of radiation, affecting critical organs such as the thyroid.
Aim: To evaluate the discrepancies in ionizing radiation received by the thyroid during PR examinations using anthropomorphic paediatric simulators built from computed tomography images.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the safety of dental imaging in pregnant women with respect to fetal health.
Materials And Methods: Searches were conducted of the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases in May 2023. The inclusion criteria encompassed cross-sectional and longitudinal studies that focused on the analysis of diagnostic dental imaging in pregnant women, as well as studies utilizing phantoms to simulate imaging examinations.
In this work, an open beam-limiting device, consisting of a rectangular collimator to be coupled to an intraoral dental X-ray device, was made using recycled lead sheets as a radiation-absorbing element. The collimator was designed for 3D printing, and using Spektr 3.0 software, the number of lead sheets needed to absorb excess radiation was calculated.

Cone-beam computed tomography volumes of 311 patients between 20 and 60 years from Brazil and The Netherlands were selected. Two radiologists performed 16 linear measurements in the maxillary sinuses and mandibular canal.

Materials And Methods: An archive of 550 dentomaxillofacial radiographic (panoramic radiography (PR) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT)) images and 33,000 histopathological records were reviewed to identify IO cases. Chi-square, Student's t test, and ANOVA tests, with a significance of p < 0.
Objectives: Given the limitations of panoramic radiography for assessing topographic relationship of maxillary teeth with sinus floor, the purpose of this study was to assess signs on panoramic radiography that could predict root protrusion into the sinus.
Methods: A total of 46 individuals (330 maxillary posterior teeth) who underwent panoramic radiography and CBCT were enrolled. The relationship between the posterior teeth and the maxillary sinus and panoramic radiography signs (projection of the root apices, interruption of the maxillary sinus floor, lamina dura, darkening in the root apices, and superiorly curving sinus floor enveloping the associated tooth root) associated with protrusion of root apices into the sinus were evaluated.
Objective: To compare dental plaster model (DPM) and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the measurement of the dental arches, and investigate whether CBCT image artifacts compromise the reliability of such measurements.
Materials And Methods: Twenty patients were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of metallic restorations in the posterior teeth. Both dental arches of the patients were scanned with the CBCT unit i-CAT, and DPMs were obtained.
