Renal tubule has distinct metabolic features and functional activity that may be altered during kidney disease. In this paper, we present label-free functional activity imaging of renal tubule in normal and obstructed mouse kidney models using three-dimensional (3D) dynamic optical coherence tomography (OCT) ex vivo. To create an obstructed kidney model, we ligated the ureter of the left kidney for either 7 or 14 days.

Two new species of scorpion belonging to the family Pseudochactidae and to the genus Vietbocap are described based on specimens collected in the Thien Duong cave, which belongs to the Vom cave system, in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam. The previously described species from this cave, Vietbocap thienduongensis Lourenço & Pham, 2012 was collected in the initial section of the cave (1500 to 1800m from the cave entrance) and proved to be a true troglobitic element. The diagnosis of this species, only known from males, is completed based on females collected at 750m from the cave entrance.

Photoreactive 3,4-diacetoxycinnamic acid- (DACA-) terminally conjugated poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) (DACA-PLLA) nanoparticles with different diameters were prepared by mixing acetonitrile as a good solvent and water as a poor solvent. The average diameters and morphologies of the nanoparticles prepared under various conditions were evaluated by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurement and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) observation. The particle size was controllable from about 100 to 300 nm by altering the composition ratio of the mixed solvent, the concentration of the polymers, or the L-lactic acid (LLA) unit number.
