Methods: Using the public payer perspective, the direct medical cost was estimated using routine data in the national claims database in Vietnam in 2017. People were identified as being diagnosed with T2DM if they were aged ≥ 30 years and who either (1) had at least one ICD-10 code E11 or (2) had been prescribed with oral antihyperglycemic medication on two separate visit records.
