Article Synopsis
  • A new multiplex PCR method has been created to quickly and accurately diagnose three types of pathogenic Yersinia bacteria, including the highly harmful Y. enterocolitica.
  • The method uses four specific primer pairs to identify genes linked to the virulence of these bacteria, resulting in distinct band patterns for each Yersinia strain.
  • This technique can detect extremely low levels of bacteria (as low as 10-10 CFU per reaction) and has proven effective on fecal samples from wild rodents that tested positive for Y. enterocolitica O8.
