Maintaining hematocrit (Hct) levels below 45% can reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with polycythemia vera (PV). A device that patients can use to self-monitor Hct levels could enable timely interventions if Hct levels increase above 45%, and could improve quality of life (QoL). Here, we use (2'S)-2'-deoxy-2'-fluoro-5-ethynyluridine (F-ara-EdU), bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU), and light sheet microscopy to track embryonic DNA in whole zebrafish. The O -MeG selectivity and MGMT inhibitory activity of DIGPor were improved by incorporating Zn into the porphyrin. The resulting metal complex (Zn-DIGPor) potentiated the activity of the DNA-alkylating drug temozolomide in an MGMT-expressing cell line.

This enabled site-selective cell surface manipulation of Escherichia coli ; the phosphine-free catalyst caused no cell death at required Pd loadings, suggesting future in vivo application of catalytic metal-mediated bond formation in more complex organisms.
