Double First Metatarsal and Akin Osteotomy for Severe Hallux Valgus.

Background: The technique of double first metatarsal osteotomies was first developed in response to the high frequency of recurrence noted in the treatment of severe adolescent congruent hallux valgus deformities. The concept behind the use of this technique is that it allows the individual correction of each component of the deformity. We have modified the technique for use in adult hallux valgus where the majority of deformities are incongruent deformities and the distal chevron osteotomy is used primarily for its additional translational properties rather than purely to correct the distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA).

Overcoming barriers to secondary prevention in hip fracture patients: An electronic referral and management system for osteoporosis.

Background: Numerous studies have shown that osteoporosis is both under diagnosed and under treated in patients with fragility fractures. We describe the use of an electronic automated referral system to enable multidisciplinary assessment and treatment of osteoporosis in patients admitted with fragility fracture of the hip.

Methods: An electronic referral system was developed from the hospital's trauma software database.

True trilineage haematopoiesis in excised heterotopic ossification from a laparotomy scar: report of a case and literature review.

We report a case of true trilineage haematopoiesis in an excised area of heterotopic ossification from an upper mid-line laparotomy scar. Heterotopic ossification is a rare complication of abdominal surgery and usually occurs when upper mid-line incisions are utilised. Whereas cases of heterotopic ossification in abdominal incisions are not exceedingly rare, true trilineage haematopoiesis in such an area of heterotopic ossification, to our knowledge, has only been previously reported once in the English literature.
