Unlabelled: Patients who have radiographically detectable lesions in their brain or other symptoms compatible with brain tumors pose challenges for diagnosis. The only definitive way to diagnose such patients is through brain biopsy, an obviously invasive and dangerous procedure. Here we present a new workflow termed "CSF-BAM" that simultaneously identifies cell or T cell receptor rearrangements, neuploidy, and using PCR-mediated amplification of both strands of the DNA from CSF samples.

Lime and lithiasis: a case of choledocholithiasis complicated by limy bile.

Limy bile syndrome (LBS) is a condition in which the biliary tract is filled with radiodense calcium carbonate rich sludge. This rare condition can complicate the management of commonly encountered biliary conditions such as choledocholithiasis. We present a case of a male in his fifties who presented to hospital with a 12-day history of abdominal pain, nausea and jaundice.

Augmented reality (AR) navigation refers to novel technologies that superimpose images, such as radiographs and navigation pathways, onto a view of the operative field. The development of AR navigation has focused on improving the safety and efficacy of neurosurgical and orthopedic procedures. In this review, the authors focus on 3 types of AR technology used in spine surgery: AR surgical navigation, microscope-mediated heads-up display, and AR head-mounted displays.

Welding fume nanoparticles from solid and flux-cored wires: Solubility, toxicity, and role of fluorides.

Welding fume particles are hazardous. Their toxicity likely depends on their composition and reactivity. This study aimed at exploring the role of sodium or other fluorides (NaF), which are intentionally added to flux-cored wire electrodes for stainless steel welding, on the solubility (in phosphate buffered saline) and toxicity of the generated welding fume particles.

Catheter ablation of scar based ventricular tachycardia - Procedural characteristics and outcomes.

Olanzapine Induced Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

A 28-year-old male patient with bipolar disorder taking olanzapine and lorazepam for almost 10 years presented with weight gain, diabetes, and anasarca was examined in this study. Assessment of morbidity following regional nodal dissection in the axilla and groin for metastatic melanoma.

Background: This study assessed and compared the morbidity of nodal dissection in the axilla and groin including sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), completion lymph node dissection for a positive SLNB (CLND) and therapeutic lymph node dissection (TLND) with and without adjuvant radiotherapy (RT).

Methods: Patients who had nodal dissection in the axilla or groin for cutaneous melanoma over an 18-year period (1995-2013) were prospectively documented on a database. The median follow-up was nearly 3 years.

Electrogenic Cardioversion.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia in clinical practice. Cardioversion for AF may be performed by either using direct current (DC) shock (electrical cardioversion) or using drugs (chemical cardioversion). Here we report a case of a patient with heart failure and AF, who reverted to the normal sinus rhythm on correction of hyperkalemia (electrogenic cardioversion).

High molecular weight (Hmw) proteins 1 and 2, type IV pilin protein (PilA), outer-membrane protein P5 (OmpP5), Haemophilus protein D (Hpd) and Haemophilus adhesive protein (Hap) are surface proteins involved in the adherence of non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae. One hundred clinical isolates were evaluated for the presence of the genes encoding these proteins by PCR and for their adherence capacity (AC) to Detroit 562 nasopharyngeal cells (D562).
