Article Synopsis
- Factor VIII deficiency, or hemophilia A, is the most common inherited bleeding disorder, affecting normal blood clotting due to low Factor VIII levels.
- A 68-year-old male with mild hemophilia A (Factor VIII activity at 16%) successfully underwent heart surgery without increased bleeding, thanks to preoperative and continuous infusion of recombinant Factor VIII (kogenate).
- Despite a postoperative complication involving a sternal wound dehiscence that required further surgical intervention, the patient did not need any blood transfusions after the surgery.
