Intravesical Migration of an Intrauterine Device (IUD)-Case Report.

Objective: The objective of this article is to report the first case of intravesical IUD migration at our clinic and raise awareness of forgotten contraceptive devices and their potential complications.

Methods: We report a case of a 67 year old female who had neglected to remove her IUD for 20 years. She visited our clinic because of recurrent UTI's the previous year.

Current status of minimally invasive endoscopic management of ureteric strictures.

Endourological techniques are used more often nowadays in the treatment of ureteric strictures of various etiologies. Advances in technology have provided new tools to the armamentarium of the endoscopic urological surgeon. Numerous studies exist that investigate the efficiency and safety of each of the therapeutic modalities available.

Improving the durability of digital flexible ureteroscopes.

Objective: To present the damage to digital flexible ureteroscopes after 1 year of use in a tertiary stone center and our strategy to reduce the damage.

Materials And Methods: Data regarding all procedures performed with 3 new digital flexible ureteroscopes (Olympus URF-V) were collected. We examined the conditions under which the damage occurred and retrieved the manufacturer's repair reports.

Positions for percutaneous nephrolithotomy: Thirty-five years of evolution.

Objectives: To present the chronological development of the different positions described for percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), in an attempt to identify the reasons for their development and to highlight their specific advantages and disadvantages.

Methods: Previous reports were identified by a non-systematic search of Medline and Scopus.

Results: The classic prone position for PCNL was first described in 1976.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy: What is new?

Objectives: Thirty years after its introduction, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) is still first-line treatment for more than half of all urinary tract stones, but machines and treatment strategies have significantly developed over time. In this review, we summarise the latest knowledge about the clinically important aspects of ESWL.

Methods: We searched PubMed to identify relevant reports and the latest European Association of Urology guidelines, and standard urological textbooks were consulted.

Hexaminolevulinate-induced fluorescence versus white light during transurethral resection of noninvasive bladder tumor: does it reduce recurrences?

Objective: To evaluate the effect of hexaminolevulinate (HAL)-induced fluorescence during resection of noninvasive bladder cancer on tumor recurrence compared with resection under white light.

Methods: Between 2008 and 2010, 102 consecutive patients with suspected bladder cancer were randomized to undergo transurethral resection with either conventional white light or combination of white light and HAL-induced fluorescence. Difference in tumor recurrence rate and recurrence-free survival between the 2 groups was evaluated.
