The study aimed to find out how common orofacial changes are in people with sickle-cell disease (SCD) and to compare these findings with those from the general population.
A total of 28 studies were selected from 770 records, indicating significant issues like decreased bone density (57%), malocclusion (66%), and delayed tooth eruption (20%) in SCD patients.
The research noted a high risk of bias due to small sample sizes and a lack of comparisons between SCD patients and healthy individuals regarding these orofacial alterations.
