Down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) reactors, employed in domestic wastewater treatment, have demonstrated efficacy in eliminating and other potentially pathogenic bacteria. The aim of this study was to elucidate the mechanism of removal of by employing a cube-shaped polyurethane sponge carrier within a compact hanging reactor. An removal experiment was conducted on this prepared sponge.

Water quality parameters influence the abundance of pathogenic bacteria. The genera Aeromonas, Arcobacter, Klebsiella, and Mycobacterium are among the representative pathogenic bacteria identified in wastewater. However, information on the correlations between water quality and the abundance of these bacteria, as well as their reduction rate in existing wastewater treatment facilities (WTFs), is lacking.

This study aimed to evaluate the nitrogen removal of a post-treatment system for natural rubber processing wastewater (NRPW) under low chemical oxygen demand to total nitrogen (COD/TN) ratios without any supplemental external carbon source. The system including a downflow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor and an upflow anaerobic reactor (UAR) was operated in two phases. In phase 1 (day 0-102), under a nitrogen loading rate (NLR) of 0.

The methanolic extract of Dryand leaves exhibited significant anti-osteoclastogenic activity. Chemical investigation of led to the isolation of one new cycloartane saponin, mussaendoside X () along with eight known compounds: heinsiagenin A 3--[-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)---D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)]---D-glucopyranoside (), mussaendoside O (), heinsiagenin A 3--[-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)---D-glucopyranosyl-(1→2)]---D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)---D-glucopyranoside (), mussaendoside G (), mussaendoside U (), shanzhiside methyl ester (), barlerin () and musaenoside (). Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods including 1D- and 2D-NMR as well as MS analysis and comparison with the literature.

Information about sediment microbiota affected by sediment microbial fuel cells (SMFC) is limited. A laboratory-scale SMFC was applied to a eutrophic lake sediment under closed-circuit/open-circuit conditions. We analyzed the prokaryotes in the sediment adhering to the anode material.

The adjustment of hydraulic retention time (HRT) and the supplement of titanium(III) nitrilotriacetate (Ti(III)-NTA) as a reducing agent were implemented in an anaerobic downflow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor with the aims to (i) improve nitrogen removal performance and to (ii) eliminate NO emission. A laboratory-scale DHS reactor was operated at 35 °C, under autotrophic denitrification conditions with methane gas (14.2 L d) as the main carbon source, NaNO and NaNO (20 mg N L per compound) as nitrogen sources.

In this study, granular sludge formation was carried out using an aluminum chloride supplement in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor treating natural rubber processing wastewater. Results show that during the first 75 days after the start-up of the UASB reactor with an organic loading rate (OLR) of 2.65 kg-COD·m(-3)·day(-1), it performed stably with a removal of 90% of the total chemical oxygen demand (COD) and sludge still remained in small dispersed flocs.
