Article Synopsis
  • Heart failure (HF) is a significant health issue in Thailand, with the study analyzing medical records from five hospitals in 2018 and 2019 to assess its prevalence and outcomes.
  • The research found that the prevalence of HF was low (0.1% in 2018 and 0.2% in 2019), with HF with preserved ejection fraction being the most common type among 7384 patients analyzed.
  • A notable 22.7% of patients were rehospitalized within a year, and the overall mortality rate within 30 days post-hospitalization was concerning, indicating a heavy burden on the healthcare system.

Methods: The COhort of antithrombotic use and Optimal INR Level in patients with non-valvular Atrial Fibrillation in Thailand (COOL-AF) study enrolled non-valvular AF patients from 27 centers in Thailand during 2014-2017 to create the COOL-AF Thailand registry. Cause of death was classified as cardiovascular (CV) death, non-CV death, or undetermined cause of death.
