Ultrasonic vibration has been employed to assist in turning, introducing intermittent machining to reduce average cutting force, minimize tool wear, and enhance machining efficiency, thereby improving surface roughness. However, achieving intermittent cutting necessitates specific conditions, with a cutting speed or feed rate falling below the critical speed associated with the ultrasonic vibration parameters. This study presents a theoretical model for surface formation in cutting-speed-direction ultrasonic-assisted turning (CUAT), covering both continuous and intermittent machining regimes.

In this paper, we present 10-pm-order mechanical displacement measurements using heterodyne interferometry. The measuring system includes a single-path heterodyne interferometer and a phase meter based on a phase-locked loop (PLL). It is not easy to measure a mechanical displacement of 10 pm or less owing to electronics and environmental noises in the interferometer.

Isolation of extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs) producing bacterial strains capable of using sludge as low-cost growth substrate was carried out in this study. A total of 110 EPS-producing strains were isolated from different sources, which include sludge of beer and winery wastewater treatment plant (WWTP); young, 2-month-old and 10-year-old leachate. Thirty-seven isolated strains showed good growth in sludge medium with cell count varying from 10 to 10 most probable number (MPN)/mL and total EPS concentration from 2737 to 6639 mg/L.

An analytical method has been developed for measuring 118 pesticides in vegetable juice. The extraction of pesticides was carried out based on dispersive solid-phase extraction, and determination was performed using gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection (GC-MS-SIM) and liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI-MS/MS). Pesticides were confirmed by their retention time and their quantification and identification ions by GC-MS-SIM or multiple reaction monitoring of two fragment ions by LC/ESI-MS/MS, respectively.
