Early treatment of skeletal class III malocclusion with facemask therapy in Vietnam.

To evaluate the effects of facemask therapy on skeletal class III malocclusion in the Vietnamese population. This interventional trial enrolled a total of 31 children, dividing them into two age groups: Children aged 7 to 9 (54.8%), who were in the pre-pubescent or early mixed dentition stages, comprised one group.

Three versus six weeks of post-amputation antibiotic therapy in diabetic forefoot osteomyelitis with positive culture for residual infected bone.

Objectives: In 2021 in our university hospital, it was decided in a multidisciplinary consultation meeting on osteoarticular infection in patients with diabetic foot to reduce the duration of post-amputation antibiotic therapy from six to three weeks in patients with diabetic forefoot osteomyelitis and residual bone infection. This study aimed to compare clinical outcomes in this group of patients, before vs after the change in practice introduced in 2021.

Methods: In this before-after study, we included all cases reported between January 2016 and August 2023 in the University Hospital of Reims.

Evaluation of a Zoonotic Orthopoxvirus PCR Assay for the Detection of Mpox Virus Infection.

An epidemic caused by an outbreak of mpox (formerly monkeypox) in May 2022 rapidly spread internationally, requiring an urgent response from the clinical diagnostics community. A detailed description of the clinical validation and implementation of a laboratory-developed real-time PCR test for detecting nonvariola Orthopoxvirus-specific DNA based on the newly designed RealStar Zoonotic Orthopoxvirus assay is presented. The validation was performed using an accuracy panel (n = 97) comprising skin lesion swabs in universal transport media and from mpox virus genomic DNA spiked into pooled mpox virus-negative remnant universal transport media of lesion specimens submitted for routine clinical testing in the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital clinical laboratory system.

HOX epimutations driven by maternal SMCHD1/LRIF1 haploinsufficiency trigger homeotic transformations in genetically wildtype offspring.

The body plan of animals is laid out by an evolutionary-conserved HOX code which is colinearly transcribed after zygotic genome activation (ZGA). Here we report that SMCHD1, a chromatin-modifying enzyme needed for X-inactivation in mammals, is maternally required for timely HOX expression. Using zebrafish and mouse Smchd1 knockout animals, we demonstrate that Smchd1 haplo-insufficiency brings about precocious and ectopic HOX transcription during oogenesis and embryogenesis.

Because of the side effects and incomplete recovery from current therapy, stem cell therapy emerges as a potential therapy for CVD treatment, and endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) is one of the key stem cells used for therapeutic applications. The effect of this therapy required the expansion of EPC function.

Anxiety about HIV criminalisation among people living with HIV in Australia.

Many countries, including Australia, have laws that enable criminal prosecution of an individual based on reckless or intentional transmission of HIV to another person. Previous research has suggested that criminalisation of HIV may serve to hamper public health efforts by inhibiting HIV status disclosure or testing. Limited research to date has sought to examine the broader impact of criminalisation on the health and wellbeing of people living with HIV, which this paper aims to address.

Treatment of Pramipexole-Induced Problematic Sexual Behaviors.

Pramipexole is a dopaminergic pharmacologic agent with reported adverse effects that include hypersexuality, shift in sexual interests, pathological gambling, compulsive shopping, and binge eating. Pramipexole is indicated in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and restless leg syndrome and has been used as adjunctive or add-on treatment in major depressive disorder. This report describes the successful treatment of a series of 4 adult men who presented with concerns about problematic sexual interests and behaviors that began after treatment with pramipexole related to Parkinson's disease or restless leg syndrome.

Real-Time Investigation of a Large Nosocomial Influenza A Outbreak Informed by Genomic Epidemiology.

Background: Nosocomial respiratory virus outbreaks represent serious public health challenges. Rapid and precise identification of cases and tracing of transmission chains is critical to end outbreaks and to inform prevention measures.

Methods: We combined conventional surveillance with influenza A virus (IAV) genome sequencing to identify and contain a large IAV outbreak in a metropolitan healthcare system.

Engineered M13 Peptide Carrier Promotes Angiogenic Potential of Patient-Derived Human Cardiac Progenitor Cells and In Vivo Engraftment.

Background: Despite promising advances in stem cell-based therapy, the treatment of ischemic cardiovascular diseases remains a big challenge due to both the insufficient in vivo viability of transplanted cells and poor angiogenic potential of stem cells. The goal of this study was to develop therapeutic human cardiac progenitor cells (hCPCs) for ischemic cardiovascular diseases with a novel M13 peptide carrier.

Method: In this study, an engineered M13 peptide carrier was successfully generated using a QuikChange Kit.

A narrative review of research on clinical responses to the problem of sexual offenses in the last decade.

Research on the treatment and programs for people who have committed sexual offenses has greatly increased in the past decade. The aim of this review is to discuss research that has been published over that period (2010-2019) that is relevant for treatment providers. The articles included in this review were found through PsycINFO and PubMed (Medline) using the keywords "treatment or therapy" and "sex offen*".

The development of low cost, portable diagnostic tools for in-field detection of viruses and other pathogenic microorganisms is in great demand but remains challenging. In this study, a novel approach based on reduced graphene oxide-polyaniline (rGO-PANi) film for the detection of loop-mediated-isothermal-amplification (LAMP) products by means of open circuit potential measurement is proposed. The pH-sensitive conducting polymer PANi was electro-deposited onto rGO coated screen printed electrodes and tuned to be at the emeraldine state at which the pH sensitivity was maximized.

Structural maintenance of chromosomes flexible hinge domain-containing 1 (Smchd1) plays important roles in epigenetic silencing and normal mammalian development. Recently, heterozygous mutations in have been reported in two disparate disorders: facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy type 2 (FSHD2) and Bosma arhinia microphthalmia syndrome (BAMS). FSHD2-associated mutations lead to loss of function; however, whether BAMS is associated with loss- or gain-of-function mutations in SMCHD1 is unclear.
