To evaluate the association between irinotecan safety and the gene polymorphism in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. The studies were systematically searched and identified from three databases (PubMed, Embase and The Cochrane Library) until 28 February 2023. The relationships were evaluated using pooled odds ratio (OR).

stands out as a major opportunistic pathogen responsible for both hospital- and community-acquired bacterial infections. This study comprehensively assesses the antibiotic resistance, amikacin persistent patterns, and biofilm-forming ability of 247 isolates of obtained from an intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital in Vietnam. Microdilution assays, conducted on a 96-well plate, determined the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of amikacin.

To reveal the association of three class I alleles, including and , and allopurinol-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) in Vietnamese patients. A case-control study on 100 allopurinol-induced SCARs patients, 183 tolerant controls and 810 population controls was performed. The and alleles were detected with the nested allele-specific PCR method; the allele was detected with the sequence-specific primer PCR method.

Article Synopsis
  • - Phenytoin (PHT) is a widely used anticonvulsant that can cause severe skin reactions, known as severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs), although studies on risk factors for these reactions have shown mixed results.
  • - This meta-analysis reviewed 11 studies involving 1,389 patients to establish a clearer link between PHT and SCARs, finding a significant association with a pooled odds ratio of 2.29 and a specific link to Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis with an odds ratio of 3.63.
  • - The findings emphasize the importance of screening patients for risks before initiating treatment with PHT to help prevent serious skin reactions.

Background: Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs) are rare but deadly drug reactions with severe damages to patients. One of the most well-known SCARs risk factors is the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes polymorphism. Among the HLA polymorphic alleles, the HLA-A*33:03 allele has been found in association with SCARs induced by various drugs, especially in Asian people.

Background: Allopurinol, a common anti-hyperuricemia drug, is well known as an inducer of severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs). One of the most well-defined risk factors of allopurinol-induced SCARs is the presence of polymorphic alleles of human leukocyte antigen () genes, such as and alleles. There is no commercial test or published in-house protocol for the specific detection of the allele.

Background: Albuminuria is the standard biomarker for the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, some patients with persistent microalbuminuria still progress to chronic kidney disease, raising the question of finding a better biomarker. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation of urinary liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) levels with renal function and to compare the role of urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) with urinary L-FABP in early detection of DN in type 2 diabetic patients.

With over 1 million incidence cases and more than 780,000 deaths in 2018, gastric cancer (GC) was ranked as the 5th most common cancer and the 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Though several biomarkers, including carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), and cancer antigen 72-4 (CA72-4), have been identified, their diagnostic accuracies were modest. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), cells derived from tumors and present in body fluids, have recently emerged as promising biomarkers, diagnostically and prognostically, of cancers, including GC.
