Background: To evaluate the presence of myofibroblasts (MFs) in the development of lip carcinogenesis, through the correlation of clinical, histomorphometric and immunohistochemical parameters, in actinic cheilitis (ACs) and lower lip squamous cell carcinomas (LLSCCs).

Methods: Samples of ACs, LLSCCs, and control group (CG) were prepared by tissue microarray (TMA) for immunohistochemical TGF-β, α-SMA, and Ki-67 and histochemical hematoxylin and eosin, picrosirius red, and verhoeff van gieson reactions. Clinical and microscopic data were associated using the Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn, and Spearman correlation tests (SPSS, p < 0.

Background: Tumor budding (TB) has been investigated in several types of solid tumors. In oral cancer, studies show its association with survival. However, for its implementation in routine histological analyses, results with a high certainty of evidence are needed.

Increasing clinical evidence indicates that Th17 cells may promote or inhibit tumor progression, however the exact role of these cells in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCCs) pathogenesis and progression remains unclear. Tumor associated macrophages are highly plastic phenotype cells which can differentiate as M1 or M2. The mechanism and cellular phenotype of IL-17 expressing macrophages are unknown.

Background: Protocadherins (PCDHs) have been reported as tumor suppressor genes, implying that these genes may be involved in tumor suppression in a variety of cancers. However, a thorough understanding of the functions and mechanisms of PCDHs remains limited. Our aim was to investigate the methylation profile of PCDHs in human malignant neoplasms.

Objective: to investigate CD133 immunoexpression, cancer stem cells marker, in oral epithelial dysplasias (OEDs) and oral squamous cells carcinomas (OSCCs) and understandits possible involvement in the malignant transformation process of these lesions and to better elucidate their biological behavior.

Material And Methods: Tissue samples of 15 cases of OSCCs and 15 OEDs were subjected to CD133 antibody immunohistochemistry reactions. The analysis used quantitative parameters (number of immunostained cells regardless of immunostaining sublocations).

Background: There are several lesions of odontogenic and non-odontogenic origin in the oral cavity, such as odontogenic keratocyst, as well as many treatment options for such lesions. In order to reduce recurrence due to conservative treatments and less aesthetic and functional impairment of the patient (radical therapies), Carnoy's solution has been used as an adjuvant to surgery, showing satisfactory results. Its application is not standardized, presenting risks to adjacent tissues.

Introduction: Oral epithelial dysplasia (OED) is a risk factor for developing subsequent oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) profiles have been validated as risk predictors of malignant transformation of OED. It is still unclear if Phosphatase and tensin homologue deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) allelic loss also occurs in initial stage malignant lesions and if the allelic loss is involved as one of the mechanisms of oral carcinogenesis.

The objective of this case is to discuss the endodontic management in patient diagnosed with Progressive Ossificans Fibrodysplasia (POF) who sought the dental service due to discomfort in the mandible. Minor mobility of the peripheral joints, spinal involvement, gait limitation, inability to sit, report of joint pain, and limitation of TMJ movements were observed on the extra-oral examination. The intraoral examination revealed the presence of ectopic teeth (13 and 23), prolonged retention of primary teeth (53 and 63), dental gyrosurgery (34 and 33), caries lesion on teeth 36 and 47, and dental crowding.

Purpose: The present study reviewed the clinical, imaging, and therapeutic aspects of genial tubercle fracture (GTF).

Materials And Methods: A 2-phase systematic search of the literature was performed. Search strategies were developed for specific databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane, and LILACS), including the gray literature (Open Grey and Google Scholar).

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the effect of surgically assisted rapid maxillary expansion (SARME) associated with pterygomaxillary disjunction (PD) on mandibular positioning.

Materials And Methods: A two-phase systematic review registered with the PROSPERO database was performed. Search strategies were developed for specific databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, COCHRANE, LILACS, and DOSS), including the gray literature (Open Gray, Google Scholar, and ProQuest).

Unlabelled: ABSTRACTBackground:The study aims to assess the relationship between oral discomfort and subjective well-being (SWB) in older people.

Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted in four Reference Centers for Social Welfare in Fortaleza, Northeastern Brazil. A census was held and individual interviews were carried out with all the older people (n = 246) enrolled in the centers.

Mucoceles can occur in the oral cavity, appendix, bladder, paranasal sinuses, and lacrimal sac. In the oral cavity, mucoceles arise from pathological alterations in the minor salivary gland ducts. In this study, we aimed to histologically reevaluate cases of oral mucoceles to identify possible variants.

Introduction: Mucoceles are common benign pseudocystic lesions of the oral cavity; their main etiological factors are trauma and ductal obstruction. Two histological patterns are found: mucus retention phenomenon (MRP) and mucus extravasation phenomenon (MEP). Mucus extravasation phenomenon is the more common histological subtype and it mainly affects the lower lip.

Lymphoepithelial cyst is a rare lesion of the oral cavity, with the mouth floor being the most common site of occurrence. The therapeutic approach of choice is the surgical treatment, which has rare cases of postoperative complications. The aim of this study is to report the case of a 53-year-old patient who came to Dental Service in the Federal University of Ceará complaining of a small nodular lesion (0.
