Protothecosis is an infectious disease caused by unicellular algae of the genus Prototheca, which are mainly known for causing mastitis in farm animals. However, there are reports of protothecosis in humans and other animals, such as dogs and cats, which develop cutaneous lesions or systemic lesions. Dogs with the systemic form generally develop bloody diarrhoea and blindness and neurological signs may also occur.

The main treatments for cancer are radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but they can generate side effects such as fatigue, myelosuppression, and radiodermatitis. The Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer already recommends the use of laser for radiodermatitis in breast cancer patients. However, in relation to head and neck cancer patients, there is a lack of studies clearly demonstrating clinical effects and identifying the best light parameters for the treatment of radiodermatitis.

Testicular degeneration by heat is the leading cause of infertility in bulls. Beef cattle are generally farmed under hot and humid conditions, and consequently, the thermotolerance of each breed must be considered in their natural environment. This study aimed to evaluate the reproductive characteristics of Brahman bulls maintained in the grazing system, with or without shadow availability.

This paper reports on two cases of laparoscopic nephrotomy employed in the treatment of canine dioctophymosis, which is considered a unusual procedure and a new treatment proposal heretofore not performed in veterinary medicine. Two patients were treated, one with a history of hematuria and the other with incidental finding of the parasite in the abdominal cavity during elective ovariohysterectomy. Both dogs were subjected to abdominal ultrasound, which produced images indicating the presence of the parasite in the right side kidney, but with partial parenchymal preservation.

Our study was based on the fact that physiological changes in the plant resulting from the growth conditions alter the properties of the starch. An experimental trial was installed with cassava plants in poor phosphorus soil. A part of plants received phosphate fertilization at a level three times higher than the recommended dose, in order to provide high availability of phosphorus in the soil.

The diversification of raw materials in the starch industries is a current strategy. However, the production of native starches does not meet market demand, and it is essential to expand the knowledge about chemical modifications in the same production line for different sources of starch. Phosphate starches are one of the most abundantly produced and widely used chemically modified starches.

Although nanoparticles, polymeric micelles, liposomes, nanoemulsions, and microemulsions were extensively evaluated as formulations for nasal administration of drugs, lyotropic liquid crystal (LLC) mesophases have been few studied. The phase transition from a low-viscosity microemulsion to a more viscous LLC may improve the mucoadhesion of the formulation. Donepezil is a drug administered orally in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, and with gastrointestinal side effects that are typical of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors.
