Deep-intronic (DI) variants represent approximately 10%-12% of disease-causing genetic defects in -associated Stargardt disease (STGD1). Although many of these DI variants are amenable to antisense oligonucleotide-based splicing-modulation therapy, no treatment is currently available. These molecules are mostly variant specific, limiting their applicability to a broader patient population.

Article Synopsis
  • Sugarcane bagasse is a common agricultural waste in Vietnam, rich in cellulose, making it a sustainable material for creating cellulose carbon aerogels.
  • The study utilized this waste to synthesize cellulose aerogels using various crosslinking agents, confirming their structure and properties through multiple analytical methods.
  • Among the aerogels created, the cellulose-sodium alginate version exhibited low density, high porosity, and effective salt adsorption, demonstrating strong potential for use in desalination applications with lasting performance.

Article Synopsis
  • Graphene sheets were modified with nickel or copper oxides and polyaniline, creating new materials for detecting methanol through a straightforward electrochemical method.
  • * The sensors demonstrated strong electrocatalytic activity, with a dynamic range of 20-1300 mM for methanol and high sensitivity without interference from ethanol or other alcohols.
  • * This research presents an innovative and cost-effective alternative to traditional precious metal sensors for identifying methanol in potentially counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

Background: This study aims to describe our new experience with single-port totally endoscopic thyroidectomy via the axillary approach in patients with unilateral thyroid benign tumors. In parallel with that, we also discuss here the challenges and novelty highlights we have confronted and solved and the details of our operative technique.

Methods: Between August 2018 and May 2020, the study involved 54 patients who underwent a single-port single-incision endoscopic thyroidectomy via the axillary approach for benign thyroid tumor at the National Hospital of Endocrinology (Hanoi, Vietnam).
