Older adults with Alzheimer's disease (AD), in addition to significant cognitive disability, have twice the risk of fracture compared to those with normal cognition. Fractures among older adults with AD are associated with substantial morbidity, loss of physical function, and significant mortality. Prior studies have shown a decreased risk of fracture among those taking acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as donepezil.

Intervening on Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease in Latino/a and Black Patients with Diabetes: A Feasibility Pilot.

Introduction: Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), particularly those from historically marginalized racial and ethnic groups, are at high risk of poor outcomes from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Evidence-based management (EBM) of MASLD can prevent its progression to cirrhosis and poor outcomes, yet rates of EBM of MASLD are low in T2D.

Selective Adsorption of Ionic Species Using Macroporous Monodispersed Polyethylene Glycol Diacrylate/Acrylic Acid Microgels with Tunable Negative Charge.

Monodispersed polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA)/acrylic acid (AA) microgels with a tuneable negative charge and macroporous internal structure have been produced using a Lego-inspired droplet microfluidic device. The surface charge of microgels was controlled by changing the content of AA in the monomer mixture from zero (for noncharged PEGDA beads) to 4 wt%. The macroporosity of the polymer matrix was introduced by adding 20 wt% of 600-MW polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a porogen material into the monomer mixture.

Unlabelled: Conservation breeding programs are increasingly used as recovery actions for wild animals; bringing founders into captivity to rear captive populations for future reintroduction into the wild. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature recommends that founders should come from genetically close populations and should have sufficient genetic diversity to avoid mating among relatives. Genomic data are highly informative for evaluating founders due to their high resolution and ability to capture adaptive divergence, yet, their application in that context remains limited.

Diversification of the sleepers (Gobiiformes: Gobioidei: Eleotridae) and evolution of the root gobioid families.

Eleotridae (sleepers) and five smaller families are the earliest diverging lineages within Gobioidei. Introduction: Oncotype Dx (ODX) is a genetic assay that analyzes tumor recurrence risk and provides chemotherapy recommendations for T1-T2 stage, hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-negative, and nodal-negative breast cancer patients. Despite its established validity, the utilization of this assay is suboptimal. The study aims to evaluate factors that are associated with adherence rate with the testing guidelines and examine changes in utilization trends.

Species delineation and systematics of a hemiclonal hybrid complex in Australian freshwaters (Gobiiformes: Gobioidei: Eleotridae: ).

The rivers of southeastern Australia host a species complex within the carp gudgeon genus that includes parental species and hemiclonal hybrid lineages. These hemiclones can be difficult to distinguish from their parent taxa, making delineation of species unusually difficult. We approach this historical taxonomic problem by using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping to distinguish individuals of each species and hemiclones, enabling us to quantify the variation among evolutionary lineages and assign names to the species.

Patterns of Phenotypic Evolution Associated with Marine/Freshwater Transitions in Fishes.

Evolutionary transitions between marine and freshwater ecosystems have occurred repeatedly throughout the phylogenetic history of fishes. The theory of ecological opportunity predicts that lineages that colonize species-poor regions will have greater potential for phenotypic diversification than lineages invading species-rich regions. Thus, transitions between marine and freshwaters may promote phenotypic diversification in trans-marine/freshwater fish clades.

FASCIOLOIDES MAGNA IN FREE-RANGING ROCKY MOUNTAIN BIGHORN SHEEP (OVIS CANADENSIS).

From February to May 2021, four nonmigratory rams from the Radium-Stoddart bighorn sheep (BHS; Ovis canadensis) herd in the Rocky Mountains of southeastern British Columbia, Canada, died from infection with the giant liver fluke, Fascioloides magna. Affected animals were emaciated, weak, and lethargic or were found dead. Gross lesions, histopathology, and parasite burdens were consistent with those reported in experimentally infected BHS, domestic sheep, and other aberrant hosts.

Background: Carp gudgeons (genus Hypseleotris) are a prominent part of the Australian freshwater fish fauna, with species distributed around the western, northern, and eastern reaches of the continent. We infer a calibrated phylogeny of the genus based on nuclear ultraconserved element (UCE) sequences and using Bayesian estimation of divergence times, and use this phylogeny to investigate geographic patterns of diversification with GeoSSE. Introduction: Diabetes prevalence continues to grow and there remains a significant diagnostic gap in one-third of the US population that has pre-diabetes. Delayed Adaptive Radiation among New Zealand Stream Fishes: Joint Estimation of Divergence Time and Trait Evolution in a Newly Delineated Island Species Flock.

Adaptive radiations are generally thought to occur soon after a lineage invades a region offering high levels of ecological opportunity. However, few adaptive radiations beyond a handful of exceptional examples are known, so a comprehensive understanding of their dynamics is still lacking. Here, we present a novel case of an island species flock of freshwater fishes with a radically different tempo of adaptive history than that found in many popular evolutionary model systems.

Molecular phylogenetics has been crucial to resolving broad relationships of sleepers and gobies (Gobioidei), but the phylogenetic placements of cardinalfishes and nurseryfishes, as reciprocal or sequential sister clades to Gobioidei, are uncertain. In order to evaluate relationships among and within families we used a phylogenetic data mining approach to generate densely sampled trees inclusive of all higher taxa.
