Quorum sensing is the process by which microbial cells sense and respond to the co-presence of others in their surrounding, through the detection of their autoinducers associated with gene expression regulation and thereby controlling many physiological processes, such as biofilm formation and/or bioluminescence, etc. In Vibrio bacteria, where quorum sensing is relatively well understood with three commonly known autoinducers (HAI-1, AI-2 and CAI-1), both intra-species and inter-species cell-cell communications occur but no inter-Vibrio-species quorum sensing inhibition has been reported. In this study, by screening bacterial isolated from soil and mud samples in a northern province in Vietnam, we discovered a strain that reduced more than 75% of the bioluminescence of a Vibrio harveyi, with evidence showing that such an inhibition might be associated with quorum sensing inhibition.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to characterize the population-based pharmacokinetic (POP-PK) profile of imipenem in Vietnamese adult patients and to assess the probability of target attainment (PTA) of the pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) parameter to determine the optimal dose.

We examine how disordering joint position influences the linear elastic behavior of lattice materials via numerical simulations in two-dimensional beam networks. Three distinct initial crystalline geometries are selected as representative of mechanically isotropic materials with low connectivity, mechanically isotropic materials with high connectivity, and mechanically anisotropic materials with intermediate connectivity. Introducing disorder generates spatial fluctuations in the elasticity tensor at the local (joint) scale.

This study describes the preparation of berberine (BBR) in nanoformulation to enhance its solubility and increase its antibacterial effectiveness against hospital-acquired infections. BBR nanoparticles (BBR NPs) were formed by antisolvent precipitation (ASP) using glycerol as a safe organic solvent. UV-vis absorption spectra demonstrated that the solubility of BBR NPs was greatly enhanced compared to that of pure BBR.

In the current study, we have developed a solid-phase extraction (SPE) method with novel C18-alkylimidazolium ionic liquid immobilized silica (SiO-(CH)-Im-C) for the preconcentration of trace heavy metals from aqueous samples as a prior step to their determination by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICPMS). The material was characterized by Fourier-transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. A mini-column packed with SiO-(CH)-Im-C sorbent was used for the extraction of the metal ions complexed with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol (PAN) from the water sample.
