Background: The screening and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection for all junior high students in Saga Prefecture, Japan, were started in 2016. The present study aims to evaluate the influence of adverse reactions on the success of the eradication therapy.

Background: EMR is currently a standard treatment for mucosal gastric tumors. Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been developed for en bloc resection.

Objective: We evaluated the clinical outcomes of ESD compared with conventional EMR.

A case of diabetic mastopathy with multiple lesions mimicking breast cancer.

We report a case of diabetic mastopathy with multiple unilateral lesions in an insulin dependent patient. The patient was a 62-year-old woman with two hard tumors in the right breast, who had been treated with insulin for diabetes mellitus. Mammography revealed a highly dense tumor in the right breast, while ultrasonography showed two irregular hypoechoic lesions with marked posterior acoustical shadowing, suggesting scirrhous carcinoma.

Adenocarcinoid of the appendix: report of two cases.

Adenocarcinoid of the appendix is a rare tumor with the histological features of both adenocarcinoma and carcinoid tumor. However, its biological behavior and malignant potential are still unclear. We treated two patients with this unusual tumor; a 60-year-old man and a 79-year-old woman.

Pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy without homologous blood transfusion in a Jehovah's witness with pancreatic cancer: report of a case.

A case of successfully treated pancreatic cancer without homologous blood transfusion in a Jehovah's witness is reported. The patient was a 60-year-old Japanese man and he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Based on the patient's informed consent, human recombinant erythropoietin (12000 IU/day), saccharated ferric oxide (60 mg/day), and 25% human serum albumin (100 mL/day) were administrated for 7 consecutive days prior to the operation.

Experience of intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV-DSA) in evaluation of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for advanced breast cancer.

Intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV-DSA) was performed before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in five patients with locally advanced breast cancer, and the efficacy of NACT was evaluated on the basis of the results of IV-DSA and histopathological examination. Following NACT, the maximum density of tumor enhancement (MAX) in the IV-DSA image decreased by 61.6% in case 1, 50% in case 2, 58.

[Early phase II dose-finding study of exemestane in postmenopausal patients with advanced/recurrent breast cancer].

Exemestane was administered orally to postmenopausal women with advanced/recurrent breast cancer at a dose of 10 mg/day or 25 mg/day once daily for more than 8 weeks in order to evaluate the drug's anti-tumor effects and safety in a dose-finding study. The response rate (CR + PR) in the 10 mg and 25 mg group was 25.0% (8/32) and 31.

Monotherapy with paclitaxel as third-line chemotherapy against anthracycline-pretreated and docetaxel-refractory metastatic breast cancer.

We describe a patient with anthracycline-pretreated and docetaxel-refractory metastatic breast cancer who achieved a complete response after third-line chemotherapy with paclitaxel. A 59-year-old woman underwent modified radical mastectomy for advanced cancer in her left breast after local arterial neoadjuvant chemotherapy with anthracycline. Postoperatively anthracycline-containing adjuvant therapy was administered.

Prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in the residual stomach after gastrectomy for gastric cancer.

Background/aims: In recent years, the role of Helicobacter pylori in gastritis of the residual stomach has attracted much attention. We investigated the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in the residual stomach after distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer, as well as the correlations between Helicobacter pylori positivity and clinical characteristics or the severity of gastritis in the residual stomach.

Methodology: The subjects were 66 patients with gastric cancer who underwent distal gastrectomy with Billroth I reconstruction at our department.
