Professional exposure to vegetable dusts affect the respiratory function of the exposed subjects. A previous survey conducted in an industrial flour-mill demonstrated a higher frequency of respiratory symptoms in workers compared to a control group. Ten subjects employed in a work site particularly exposed to dust were studied.

A method is described enabling the recording of synaptic currents from an isolated interganglionic interneurone in the central nervous system of the cockroach, Periplaneta americana, using an oil-gap recording system. The circuitry contains a Wheatstone bridge in which the preparation is the unknown resistance. Using a voltage-clamp technique, both excitatory and inhibitory postsynaptic currents together with currents induced by metabolic changes can be detected.

The frequency of bronchial symptoms and the alteration of respiratory function parameters were studied in a group of 63 workers of an industrial flour-mill, and in a control group matched according to age, social class, and tobacco intake. In the exposed group the answers to a questionnaire indicated a greater incidence of cough (p less than 0.01) and chronic expectoration (p less than 0.

This is a pilot study by UICTMR on smoking habits in medical students carried out in five countries before a world study is undertaken. Smoking habits are already established for first year medical students and for fifth year medical students of both sexes. Cessation of smoking, however, is common in the young.

We examined the time course of the development of hemorrhagic synovitis in response to repeated autologous blood injections into knee joints in mature dogs and the possible usefulness of joint imaging with technetium-99m pyrophosphate (Tc99m-PYP) in monitoring the early response of synovium to blood. Experimental hemarthrosis was induced in dogs by twice weekly injection of autologous blood into the knee joints. Sequential examination of the synovium at monthly intervals over a period of 12 weeks revealed early inflammatory cell infiltration and capillary neovascularization with eventual replacement of the normal fatty synovium by dense fibrous tissue.

Six fracture dislocations or dislocations of the olecranon associated with radial head fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation of the radial head. The olecranon was reduced and if fractured (three cases) was internally fixed. Postoperatively, early active range of motion was achieved in all cases.

A prospective study on digital intravenous angiography (DIVA) in 164 renal transplant recipients performed from 1 to 2 months post-transplant was conducted to assess its usefulness in the screening of post-transplant renal artery stenosis (RAS). DIVA was uninterpretable in 32 patients (19%) on technical grounds (blood vessel or metallic clip superimposed). The global prevalence of RAS was 10.

Results of 351 intravenous digital subtraction angiographs (AN) of transplanted kidneys emphasized reliability of this examination for detection of renal artery stenosis. A prospective study of 219 patients (188 interpretable AN) showed significant stenosis of grafted artery in 22% of cases: 17% of the 126 patients with normal blood pressure and 34% of the 62 cases of hypertension. Digital subtraction allows, with a single injection, assessment of renal artery, nephrogram and excretory cavities, but it is not a substitute for conventional intravenous urography 1 to 2 months after grafting.

The thought of this work about the mad senile person's affective life concerns some almost permanent clinical establishments such as: on one hand, the existence of late-life companions and inanimate objects evoking some phenomena met during childhood: fancied companion, fetish objects. On the other hand, the existence of "behaviours" evoking those of the little child during his psycho-affective development. We have been led to study the notion of regression during the dementia process and ask ourselves about psychopathological mechanisms underlying this regression, regarded as a mechanism of narcissistic strengthening underlying the appearance of late-life companion or inanimate object.

The authors report three cases in which echotomographic findings were suggestive of cortical necrosis in a grafted kidney (cortical hypoechogenic border). This proved to actually be the diagnosis in one case only.
