High lymphocyte counts before antithymocyte globulin administration predict acute graft-versus-host disease.

Antithymocyte globulin (ATG) reduces severe acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT). However, risk factors for severe acute GVHD in PBSCT using ATG remain to be determined. We conducted a single-center, retrospective study to analyze the association of acute GVHD requiring systemic corticosteroid (SC-aGVHD) with absolute lymphocyte counts (ALC) before the administration of ATG or conditioning in 53 patients with HLA-matched PBSCT using low-dose thymoglobulin (2 mg/kg) after myeloablative conditioning.

Saliva is non-invasive specimen suitable for mass-screening, but data comparing utility of nasopharyngeal swab (NPS) and saliva in RT-LAMP test are lacking and it remains unclear whether SARS-CoV-2 could be detected by direct processing of samples without the need for prior RNA extraction saliva.

Furthermore, we evaluated the relationship between the plasma concentration and efficacy and safety of colistin in some cases.

Background: Pegfilgrastim has equivalent efficacy to daily granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) in enhancing neutrophil recovery after chemotherapy, but data on its use for peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) mobilization are limited. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of CD34 PBSC mobilization by low-dose (3.6 mg) pegfilgrastim after chemotherapy in patients with malignant lymphoma.

Metal artifact reduction using iterative CBCT reconstruction algorithm for head and neck radiation therapy: A phantom and clinical study.

Purpose: To investigate whether a novel iterative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) reconstruction algorithm reduces metal artifacts in head and neck patient images.

Method: An anthropomorphic phantom and 35 patients with dental metal prostheses or implants were analyzed. All CBCT images were acquired using a TrueBeam linear accelerator and reconstructed with a Feldkamp-Davis-Kress algorithm-based CBCT (FDK-CBCT) and an iterative CBCT algorithm.

Reduced dose of posttransplant cyclophosphamide in HLA-haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.

Posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy:100 mg/kg) has been increasingly used in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, however, few studies compared different doses of PTCy. We conducted two consecutive prospective multicenter phase II studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of 80 mg/kg of PTCy in 137 patients who underwent HLA-haploidentical peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (haploPBSCT) following reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC). GVHD prophylaxis consisted of PTCy at a dose of 40 mg/kg/day on days 3 and 4, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil.

Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Emerging evidence indicates that poor nutritional status determined with nutritional indices such as geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), and controlling nutritional status score (CONUT) was associated with poor prognosis of DLBCL. We conducted this multicenter retrospective study to validate and compare prognostic values of the three indices in 615 newly diagnosed DLBCL patients.

Background/aim: The Purpose of this study was to develop a Monte Carlo (MC) model for the Agility multileaf collimator (MLC) mounted and to validate its accuracy.

Materials And Methods: To describe the Agility MLC in the BEAMnrc MC code, an existing component module code was modified to include its characteristics. The leaf characterization of the MC model was validated by comparing the calculated interleaf transmission and tongue-and-groove effect with EBT2 film and diode measurements and IMRT and VMAT calculations with film measurements.

However, graft rejection remains an obstacle to PTCy-haplo HSCT.

Background: Preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (NACRT) is applied for resectable pancreatic cancer (RPC). To maximize the efficacy of NACRT, it is essential to ensure the accurate placement of fiducial markers for image-guided radiation. However, no standard method for delivering fiducial markers has been established to date, and the nature of RPC during NACRT remains unclear.

Patients with autoimmune diseases (AIDs) may develop lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs) during treatment with immunosuppressive agents (IS) such as methotrexate (MTX), biological agents, or tacrolimus. Some LPDs in patients with AIDs (AID-LPDs) regress after withdrawal of IS, and a high incidence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positivity in such patients has been reported. To identify characteristics and factors predictive of the response to treatment and disease progression, we retrospectively analyzed clinical and histopathological data for 81 patients with AID-LPDs.

The vestibular lamina (VL) is a transient developmental structure that forms the lip furrow, creating a gap between the lips/cheeks and teeth (oral vestibule). Surprisingly, little is known about the development of the VL and its relationship to the adjacent dental lamina (DL), which forms the teeth. In some congenital disorders, such as Ellis-van Creveld (EVC) syndrome, development of the VL is disrupted and multiple supernumerary frenula form, physically linking the lips and teeth.

Safety and efficacy of anti-programmed cell death-1 monoclonal antibodies before and after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation for relapsed or refractory Hodgkin lymphoma: a multicenter retrospective study.

We conducted a multicenter study on anti-programmed cell death-1 monoclonal antibodies (anti-PD-1 mAbs) before/after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) for Hodgkin lymphoma. Anti-PD-1 mAbs were administered to 25 patients before allo-HCT and to 20 after allo-HCT. In pre-allo-HCT setting, the median interval from the last administration to allo-HCT was 59 days.

Background: We investigated the change of dose distributions in volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) under baseline drift (BD) during breath holding.

Materials And Methods: Ten VMAT plans recalculated to a static field at a gantry angle of 0° were prepared for measurement with a 2D array device and five original VMAT plans were prepared for measurement with gafchromic films. These measurement approaches were driven by a waveform reproducing breath holding with BD.
