Introduction: Long COVID affects millions of individuals worldwide with a wide range of persistent symptoms. Pathogenesis, prevalence and clinical approach of this syndrome remain not well characterized. The aim of the study is the estimation of prevalence of long-COVID and identification of possible risk factors.

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the incidence of antimicrobial resistance and the management of bloodstream infections before and during the COVID-19 pandemic at the University General Hospital of Alexandroupolis (Greece).
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective study conducted from January 2018 to December 2022.

While SARS-CoV-2 is known to cause pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), many extrapulmonary manifestations of COVID-19 have also been observed. Cutaneous manifestations including erythematous rash, urticaria, and chickenpox-like vesicles have been described in patients with SARS-CoV-2. Six patients, two men and four women, in the age group of 50 to 60 years old, hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed with real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) presented cutaneous manifestations.

Antiretroviral treatment based on tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) is increasingly recommended, as it maintains the viral suppression and improves renal function and bone density in comparison with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). We carried out a retrospective cohort study including experienced patients who switched treatment from TDF to TAF. Serum lipids and glucose, renal function, body mass index (BMI), and cardiovascular risk were evaluated before and 3 and 6 months after the initiation of TAF-based treatment.

However, late presentation of a large number of patients remains a serious public health problem. The aim of our study is to highlight the dimensions of the problem by evaluating the data from the HIV Unit of Alexandroupolis, a rural region with population heterogeneity and a strategic position between West and East, Europe, and Asia.

Much effort has been invested so far on early diagnosis of AKI using promising biomarkers. This study aimed to determine whether urine alpha1-microglobulin (α1m), a lipocaline member previously used as an indicator of proximal tubular dysfunction, can early predict the development of sepsis-associated AKI (SAAKI) in critically ill patients.

While most cases of leptospirosis are mild to moderate, the course may be complicated by multiorgan dysfunction. We present a rare case of leptospirosis with acute myocarditis, pancreatitis, polyarthritis, mononeuritis multiplex and severe vasculitis with necrosis of the extremities.

Head hair samples were collected from 22 infants (<2 years of age) and 44 adults with different exposures to tobacco (through either active or passive smoking) and analyzed by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) for nicotine and cotinine. Hair samples were divided into three groups, infants, passive smoker adults and active smoker adults, and into eight subgroups according to the degree of exposure.

A new, simple, fast and sensitive method that enables the measurement of four dialkyl phosphates (DAPs) in human head hair is presented in the current study. The dialkyl phosphates, dimethyl phosphate (DMP), diethyl phosphate (DEP), diethyl thiophosphate (DETP) and diethyl dithiophosphate (DEDTP) are non-selective metabolites of the organophosphate pesticides (OPs). The extraction of DAPs from hair matrix was achieved by one step methanolic extraction.

Hemorrhage from the central airways has also been reported as a rare manifestation of acute tracheobronchial injury, associated with severe disruption of the bronchial vasculature due to highly negative inspiratory pressure. In this clinical report, we describe a case of both acute tracheobronchial and alveolar hemorrhage in a young man, occurring immediately after extubation due to laryngospasm, diagnosed by bronchoscopy with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), measurement of the pulmonary edema fluid/plasma protein ratio, and by thoracic computed tomography (CT) scan.

In 14-18% of amiodarone-treated patients, there is overt thyroid dysfunction, usually in the form of amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis, which can be difficult to manage with standard medical treatment.
Case Presentation: Presented is the case of a 65-year-old man, under chronic treatment of atrial fibrillation with amiodarone, who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit with acute cardio-respiratory failure and fever.
The prophylaxis and treatment methods of the gut stress ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding in early postoperative period in patients suffering malignant tumors of abdominal cavity organs were presented. High efficacy of proton pump inhibitor Omez in the injection form was noted for prophylaxis of the gut stress ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding in early postoperative period. There was shown, that Omez constitutes one of the main components of complex antisecretory therapy of the gut stress ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding in persons, operated on for oncologic disease.

Catechol and pyrogallol are allelochemicals which belong to phenolic compounds synthesized in plants. Their antimicrobial activities were investigated on three bacteria (Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas pyocyanea, Corynebacterium xerosis) and two fungi (Fusarium oxysporum, Penicillium italicum) phytopathogenic species as test organisms using the disc diffusion method. Both catechol and pyrogallol were found to have antibacterial effects on all the bacteria used in the study at 5 and 10 mM concentrations.

In order to evaluate the AIDS related sources of information, knowledge, attitudes and behaviours among male young people it was filled in a multi-choice anonymous questionnaire by 2018 subjects, called for the first medical examination to Italian Navy and by 1348 recruits. The data from the latter group were used to make comparisons with our previous survey carried out in 1988. The most important sources of information on AIDS were mass media and school, on sexuality friends and family.

Hyperimmunization was associated with age, area of residence and health care availability. Indiscriminate administration of booster doses of tetanus vaccine could result in some areas in unnecessary revaccinations and possibly hypersensitivity reactions.

Preceding birth cohorts, accounting for almost 80% of present Italian population, were poorly immune or totally non-immune; around 90% of cases of tetanus occurring in Italy in recent years are observed among them. In a national sample of 4770 young males born between 1956 and 1963, about one third was not protected.
