Investigated the effects of MMPI PD on the relationship between WAIS PA and MMPI SI. WAIS PA performance and MMPI SI have been reported to be related negatively in university undergraduates (Schill, 1966) and related positively in psychiatric patients (Johnson, 1969). This study was derived from the assumption that Schill's undergraduates had higher MMPI PD than Johnson's patients.

We have defined three phases including: (1) initiation, (2) maintenance, and (3) termination of the antiproliferative state. Each phase is characterized by specific growth modulatory properties.

Pineal gland NAT activity was increased following amphetamine treatment to a greater extent and for a longer duration in adult female rats compared to male animals. The greater in vivo stimulation of adult female pineal gland NAT activity by the drug developed after puberty, depended upon intact gonads, and apparently was not due to sex differences in the amount of norepinephrine released by the drug from sympathetic nerves when tested under in vitro conditions.

Antisera to carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), to a physicochemical subset of CEA, namely CEA-S, and to nonspecific cross-reacting antigen (NCA) were used for the immunohistochemical localization of these antigens in human bronchogenic carcinomas using a triple layer immunoperoxidase technique. The study is based on an analysis of tumors from 130 patients. CEA, CEA-S, and NCA were all identified in the membrane and/or cytoplasm of neoplastic cells, and a good correlation between the antigens was observed in a majority of tumors.

Severe dementia of the Alzheimer type is found rarely in a clearly dominant pattern, although often one or more relatives are affected.

Glasses have more negative effects on self-esteem when first prescribed during childhood or adulthood than during adolescence. Children may be more likely than adolescents to internalize negative social reactions evoked by glasses, whereas adults who obtain glasses may be reacting negatively to evidence of aging and physical decline.

To investigate HDL-C changes more thoroughly, we followed initially sedentary middle-aged men randomly assigned to either a moderate running (n = 36) or a sedentary control (n = 28) group for one year. Among runners, one-year changes in plasma HDL-C concentrations correlated strongly with their body weight changes (r = - 0.

In this report, a method is proposed for the quantitative assessment of dietary adherence in patients with IDDM. The method relies on comparisons between individualized diet plans and actual consumption as reflected by 24-h diet recalls.

Perikarya labeled with ChAT were detected in four major cell groups: (1) the striatum, (2) the magnocellular basal nucleus, (3) the pontine tegmentum, and (4) the cranial nerve motor nuclei. Labeled neurons in the striatum were observed scattered throughout the neostriatum (caudate, putamen) and associated areas (nucleus accumbens, olfactory tubercle).

There is a positive correlation of size of the primary tumor and the incidence of axillary nodal metastasis. Infiltrating ductal and lobular carcinoma had a significantly higher incidence of nodal metastasis (and greater change of having four or more positive nodes) than that of medullary and colloid carcinomas.

Tangles composed of 15 nm straight fibers in these areas showed positive immunolabeling with the antiserum. The labeling tangles appeared as a fibrous meshwork in neuronal cell bodies and occasionally in short segments of axons.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFImmunohistochemical localization of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) in cholinergic neurons has been difficult to achieve because of problems encountered in producing specific antisera. Here we describe the production and characterization of several distinct monoclonal antibodies to ChAT. Each of the monoclonal antibodies exhibits one of three general patterns of cross-species reactions; one pattern shows reactivity limited mainly to bovine ChAT, a second pattern shows reactivity only to ChAT from higher mammals including humans, and the third pattern shows reactivity to ChAT from all mammals tested.

Overall, 56 per cent of the nodes had benign lesions, 29 per cent had carcinoma, and 15 per cent had lymphoma. Supraclavicular nodes had the highest incidence of metastatic carcinoma (54%), and inguinal nodes had the highest incidence of reactive hyperplasia or lymphadenitis (71%).
