Cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) is a promising molecular catalyst for aqueous electroreduction of CO, but its catalytic activity is limited by aggregation at high loadings. Codeposition of CoPc onto electrode surfaces with the coordinating polymer poly(4-vinylpyridine) (P4VP) mitigates aggregation in addition to providing other catalytic enhancements. Transmission and diffuse reflectance UV-vis measurements demonstrate that a combination of axial coordination and π-stacking effects from pyridyl moieties in P4VP serve to disperse cobalt phthalocyanine in deposition solutions and help prevent reaggregation in deposited films.

Genes encoding the KDM5 family of transcriptional regulators are disrupted in individuals with intellectual disability (ID). To understand the link between KDM5 and ID, we characterized five Drosophila strains harboring missense alleles analogous to those observed in patients. These alleles disrupted neuroanatomical development, cognition and other behaviors, and displayed a transcriptional signature characterized by the downregulation of many ribosomal protein genes.

Long-term research has identified significant water contamination and associated poor health outcomes in the indigenous community of Alpuyeca, located in south-central Mexico. The multi-systemic genetic disorder tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) impacts multiple neurodevelopmental processes including neuronal morphogenesis, neuronal migration, myelination and gliogenesis. These alterations contribute to the development of cerebral cortex abnormalities and malformations. Although TSC is caused by mTORC1 hyperactivation, cognitive and behavioral impairments are not improved through mTORC1 targeting, making the study of the downstream effectors of this complex important for understanding the mechanisms underlying TSC.

A series of heterocyclic pyrimidinedione-based HIV-1 integrase inhibitors was prepared and screened for activity against purified integrase enzyme and/or viruses modified with the following mutations within integrase: Q148R, Q148H/G140S and N155H. These are mutations that result in resistance to the first generation integrase inhibitors raltegravir and elvitegravir. Based on consideration of drug-target interactions, an approach was undertaken to replace the amide moiety of the first generation pyrimidinedione inhibitor with azole heterocycles that could retain potency against these key resistance mutations.

Flavonoid natural products are well known for their beneficial antimicrobial, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory properties, however, some of these natural products often are rhamnosylated, which severely limits their bioavailability.
