Use of time in people with a life-limiting illness: A longitudinal cohort feasibility pilot study.

Background: To date, time-use studies in palliative care have been limited to exploration of time commitments of caregivers. Understanding time-use in people with a life-limiting illness might provide insight into disease progression, symptom management and quality of life.

Aim: To determine the feasibility of a repeated-measures, time-use study in people with a life-limiting illness, and their primary caregivers, and to explore associations between time-use and perceived quality of life.

Feasibility and Pilot Studies in Palliative Care Research: A Systematic Review.

Context: Feasibility and pilot study designs are common in palliative care research. Finding standard guidelines on the structure and reporting of these study types is difficult.

Objectives: In feasibility and pilot studies in palliative care research, to determine 1) how commonly a priori feasibility are criteria reported and whether results are subsequently reported against these criteria? and 2) how commonly are participants' views on acceptability of burden of the study protocol assessed?

Oral mucosal ulceration due to ferrous sulphate tablets: report of a case.

Recurrent oral ulceration due to underlying iron-deficiency anaemia is already recognized. However, this case report describes a 78-year-old lady who developed severe ulceration of the tongue and floor of the mouth as a result of the treatment of iron-deficiency anaemia with ferrous sulphate tablets. Withdrawal of the ferrous sulphate tablets and replacement with ferrous fumarate syrup led to resolution of the lesion.

Removal of a deeply impacted mandibular third molar through a sagittal split ramus osteotomy approach.

We describe the case of a 48-year-old man who, after a 5-year history of recurrent infection and intermittent trismus associated with a deeply impacted lower right third molar tooth, presented to the accident and emergency department with severely limited mouth opening, extensive facial swelling and pyrexia. The lower right third molar was later removed successfully through a sagittal split ramus osteotomy approach. This case shows that the sagittal split osteotomy continues to have a valuable role in the removal of deeply impacted lower third molars, particularly when they are in close proximity to the inferior alveolar nerve.

Marsupialization of a large unilateral mandibular dentigerous cyst in a 6-year-old boy--a case report.

This paper describes the case of a 6-year-old boy who presented with an asymptomatic large unilateral dentigerous cyst related to an unerupted 6. It was marsupialized under general anaesthetic, and subsequently resolved rapidly. The pathogenesis and aetiology of dentigerous cysts is discussed, together with alternative treatment modalities.
