Objective: Surgical resection remains the gold standard treatment for bronchiectasis in patients who present with hemoptysis or suppuration, as well as in those who do not respond to clinical treatment. We sought to investigate the efficacy of sublobar resection (segmentectomy) and compare it with that of lobar resection (lobectomy) in patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
Methods: Patients undergoing lobectomy or segmentectomy between 2019 and 2023 were included in the study.
Background: This single-blind, noninferiority trial evaluated whether 10% carbamide peroxide (CP) applied for 2 or 4 hours daily is noninferior to 8 hours.
Methods: A total of 120 healthy adults, with teeth shade A2 or darker, were randomly allocated to 3 groups (n = 40). All participants used 10% CP gel in a bleaching tray for 2, 4, and 8 hours daily for 14 days, with the option to extend treatment if they were dissatisfied.
Background: To date, the only potential curative treatment for multiple myeloma (MM) remains allogeneic (allo) hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT), although, most patients will eventually relapse. In relapsed patients, donor lymphocyte infusions (DLIs) have been reported to control disease, but the optimal strategy prior to and doses of DLIs remain unclear. We hypothesized that using standardized EuroFlow™ Consortium approach could better diagnose such entities among cases that previously classified as acute myeloid leukemia (AML)-M0, AML with minimal differentiation, AML with myelodysplasia-related changes without further lineage differentiation, and AL of ambiguous lineage. Methods: The EuroLung1 and EuroLung2 models were tested and evaluated through calibration (calibration plot, Brier score, and the Hosmer-Lemeshow test) and discrimination (ROC AUCs), in a national multicenter registry of 1,031 patients undergoing anatomic lung resection.
Results: The evaluation of performance in Brazilian health care facilities utilizing risk-adjustment models, specifically EuroLung1 and EuroLung2, revealed substantial miscalibration, as evidenced by calibration plots and Hosmer-Lemeshow tests in both models.

Methods: Retrospective study including patients with NSGCT and intrathoracic metastasis after systemic therapy from January 2011 to June 2022.

Objectives: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the bleaching efficacy (BE), hydrogen peroxide penetration into the pulp chamber (HPP), and physical-chemical properties (concentration, pH, and viscosity) of in-office bleaching gels immediately and after 1 week of mixing.
Methods And Materials: We randomly divided 49 premolars into seven groups: control (no bleaching) and the following in-office bleaching (Opalescence Boost 40%, Total Blanc One Step 35%, and Whiteness HP Blue 35%) applied at two storage times: immediately and after 1 week. We evaluated the BE using a digital spectrophotometer and the HPP through UV-Vis spectroscopy.
Background: Chronic lung infections represent a diversity of clinical entities that combined respond to significant public health, particularly in developing countries. However, there is no data regarding the practice patterns, surgeons' preferences, and technological usage, especially among Brazilian surgeons, in the setting of the surgical treatment of chronic lung infections. We, therefore, surveyed Brazilian thoracic surgeons from the Brazilian Society of Thoracic Surgery (SBCT) about practice patterns and trends in surgical treatment for chronic lung infections.

Methods: Retrospective data from all cases of infectious disease pneumonectomy over the past 10 years were collected from two reference centers. The authors analyzed: patient demographics, etiology, laterality, bronchial stump treatment, presence of previous pulmonary resection, postoperative complications in the first 30 days, the treatment used in pleural complications, and one-year survival rate.
Background And Objective: Robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) has increasingly been applied to primary lung cancer treatment. Given the many facilities provided by the robotic platform in the manipulation of tissues and precision of movements, there is continuous enquiring about its contribution to the improvement of surgical outcomes. Also, the possibility to perform complex resections in a minimally invasive way using a robotic approach starts to become possible as the centers' learning curve expands.
