Article Synopsis
  • RNA-Seq was used to analyze genes involved in drought response in leaf and root tissues from both drought-susceptible and drought-tolerant genotypes, identifying 54,750 transcripts from 28,590 genes, including 1,648 novel high-fidelity entries.
  • A total of 1,239 differentially expressed genes were found, predominantly in drought-tolerant genotypes, focusing on oxidative stress, response to stimuli, and kinase activity, indicating a proactive response to stress.
  • The study validated 88.64% of these genes using qPCR, identified a large number of genetic variants, and contributed data to the NCBI database, enhancing understanding of drought tolerance mechanisms in beans.

This study aimed to evaluate the tolerance to salinity and temperature, the genetic diversity and the symbiotic efficiency of rhizobia isolates obtained from wild genotypes of common bean cultivated in soil samples from the States of Goiás, Minas Gerais and Paraná. The isolates were subjected to different NaCl concentrations (0%, 1%, 2%, 4% and 6%) at different temperatures (28°C, 33°C, 38°C, 43°C and 48°C). Genotypic characterization was performed based on BOX-PCR, REP-PCR markers and 16S rRNA sequencing.

The level and distribution of the genetic variability in 18 natural populations of Oryza glumaepatula that were collected from two Brazilian states were estimated using a set of 23 highly informative SSR markers. Samples comprising 78 and 117 individuals from populations of the states of Tocantins and Roraima, respectively, were evaluated in order to integrate and support previous studies that were carried out with populations of O. glumaepatula from Brazil.

Association analysis was applied to a panel of accessions of Embrapa Rice Core Collection (ERiCC) with 86 SSR and field data from two experiments. A clear subdivision between lowland and upland accessions was apparent, thereby indicating the presence of population structure. Thirty-two accessions with admixed ancestry were identified through structure analysis, these being discarded from association analysis, thus leaving 210 accessions subdivided into two panels.

Knowledge of natural diversity and population structures of wild species, which might be related to cultivated species, is fundamental for conservation and breeding purposes. In this study, a genetic characterization of a large population of Oryza glumaepatula, occurring in a 10 km(2) area located at Tamengo Basin (Paraguay River, Brazil), was performed using SSR markers. This population is annually dragged from the river to permit navigation; one goal of this study was to examine the impact of this removal on genetic variability.

The objectives of this study were to determine the genetic structure of 242 accessions from the EMBRAPA Rice Core Collection (ERiCC), to create a mini-core collection and to develop a multiplex panel of fluorescent labeled simple sequence repeats (SSRs). Eighty-six SSRs were used to identify 1,066 alleles, with an average number of 12.4 alleles/locus and average polymorphism information content (PIC)/locus of 0.

The existence of Oryza glumaepatula is threatened by devastation and, thus, the implementation of conservation strategies is extremely relevant. This study aimed to characterize the genetic variability and estimate population parameters of 30 O. glumaepatula populations from three Brazilian biomes using 10 microsatellite markers.
