The presence of microplastics (MPs) in marine environments has been extensively documented. However, studies of terrestrial species are scarce. Fecal samples (105) of lagomorphs were collected at sites with different levels of urbanization in the Baja California Chaparral and analyzed to quantify and characterize MPs found in the feces.

The presence of microplastics has been reported in the marine environment and these pollutants have also been reported in food webs. Information about the presence of microplastics in the Haller's Round Ray (Urobatis halleri) and bottom sediments off the east coast of the Gulf of California is non-existent. The digestive tracts of individuals of this species and sediment samples were examined for plastic particles in this region.

Microplastics have become a concern in recent years because of their negative impact on marine and freshwater environments. Twenty-one sandy beach sites were sampled to investigate the occurrence and distribution of microplastics on the sandy beaches of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexico, as well as their spectroscopic characterization and morphology. Microplastics were separated using the density method and identified using Attenuated Total Reflection Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR).
