Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) impacts the quality of life, and this study used Sudoscan to evaluate its prevalence and connection to metabolic factors in patients with type 2 diabetes diagnosed for less than 5 years.
A total of 2,243 patients were assessed; while traditional tests showed 29% abnormal results, Sudoscan identified 27.6% with sudomotor dysfunction, revealing associations with age, blood pressure, heart rate, glucose levels, and medication.
Although Sudoscan showed limited diagnostic accuracy with a sensitivity of 24% and specificity of 71%, it successfully identified many patients for early intervention to prevent complications.
