Breastfeeding effect on glucose tolerance assessment in women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus: A randomized controlled trial.

Aims: To test whether breastfeeding during the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) affects glucose and insulin outcomes (main outcome: 120 min plasma glucose).

Methods: A randomized crossover trial was conducted in 20 women with prior gestational diabetes mellitus. Each woman undertook two OGTTs in the first 3 months after delivery, breastfeeding the infant in one and avoiding breastfeeding in the other.
