Seed beetles are pernicious pests of leguminous seeds and are distributed globally. They cause great economic losses, particularly in developing countries. Of this genus, the cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus) is the most destructive and common species of this beetle.

Enterococcus faecalis strain EC-12 (EC-12) is a lactic acid bacterium that has several health benefits. To investigate the impact of oral supplementation with heat-killed EC-12 on the discomfort caused by stress, a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted with students under academic stress taking EC-12 (n = 14) or a placebo (n = 13) daily for one week.

Antibiotics are used in swine production for growth promotion and disease prevention, raising concerns about environmental contamination and antibiotic resistance. In this study, we investigated the effects of enramycin supplementation on piglet growth, gut microbiota and blood metabolites. Enramycin promotes piglet growth and temporarily reduces diarrhoea.

Pyrazinoyl compound selectively interacts with the three -AChBPs containing Arg57 and Ser189, Val189, or Glu189.

Among the test compounds, 3-(6-chloropyridin-3-ylmethyl)-2-(pyrazinoyl)iminothiazoline shows the highest potency in nAChR affinity and insecticidal activity. acetylcholine binding protein (AChBP) mutants (Y55W + Q57R and Y55W + Q57T) are utilized to compare molecular recognition of nicotinic insecticides with diverse pharmacophores.

Hiccups can significantly reduce the quality of life of patients and can occur as a drug side effect. Previous reports have revealed sex-specific differences in the incidence of drug-induced hiccups. However, the pathogenesis of drug-induced hiccups remains unknown, and there is limited evidence on its treatment or prevention.

Repellent behavior to avoid noxious stimuli is indispensable for survival, and this mechanism has been evolutionarily conserved across a wide range of species, from mammals to insects. The transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) channel is one of the most conserved noxious chemical sensors.

Describing community pharmacists' SRH services in countries with different scopes of practice will aid in understanding how pharmacists view their roles and how to support them in providing needed services. A cross-sectional web-based survey was administered to pharmacists working in community pharmacies in Japan, Thailand, and Canada.

We measured persistent organic chemicals, including polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), and benzotriazole-based ultraviolet stabilizers (UV-BTs), in the serum of captive king penguins (Aptenodytes patagonicus) using gas chromatography with an electron capture detector and mass spectrometry to examine their age-related accumulation. PCBs, DDE, UV-PS, and UV-9 were detected in the blood of captive king penguins, and the concentrations of total PCBs, DDE, and UV-9 were positively correlated with age.

However, such services are not traditionally provided by pharmacists in Japan. We surveyed the practice and attitudes regarding the provision of SRH services among Japanese community pharmacists with a focus on reproductive health (RH) topics.

This investigation examines a hypothesis that the FLP C(O)CF moiety is primarily recognized by the β subunit-face in the ligand-binding pocket (interface between α and β subunits) of the insect nAChR. Accordingly, we evaluate the atomic interaction between a fluorine atom of FLP and the partnering amino acid side chain on the β subunit employing a recombinant hybrid nAChR consisting of aphid Mpα2 and rat Rβ2 subunits (with a mutation at T77 on the Rβ2).

This study aimed to develop an exposomic approach to identify urinary metabolites of organophosphate (OP) pesticides, specifically cadusafos and prothiofos metabolites, as an example chemical group, using an original metabolome dataset generated from animal experiments.
Methods: Urine samples from 73 university students were analyzed using liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry.
Background: Continuing education (CE) is important for developing and updating pharmacists' knowledge, skills, and attitudes. CE programs should be developed according to social requirements but also based on personal requirements depending on the sectors the pharmacists work in. This research aims to explore perspectives on CE programs for foundation-level drugstore pharmacists in Japan.

A benthic dinoflagellate Ostreopsis siamensis produces more than ten palytoxins (ostreocins, OSTs). The limited sample availability of minor OSTs restricts the definition of their chemical structures.

Elucidation of the chemical structure by nuclear magnetic resonance has been hampered due to limited sample availability. More importantly, the dihedral angles of protons at the base of the hydroxyl groups on the ring structures are predicted to produce little couplings and thus disrupt connectivity.

Although lymphocyte dysfunction is associated with increased mortality and potential reactivation of latent viral infection in patients with septic shock, the relation between viral reactivation and lymphocyte dysfunction is obscure. The objectives of this study were 1) to determine the relation of lymphocyte dysfunction to viral reactivation and mortality, and 2) to evaluate recovery of lymphocyte function during septic shock, including T cell receptor (TCR) diversity and the expression of programmed death 1 (PD-1).

Based on pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic theory, administration of biapenem thrice rather than twice daily would be expected to be more effective because of longer time above the minimum inhibitory concentration. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of biapenem (300 mg) administered thrice daily in pneumonic patients aged 65 years or older.

Doubling of serum creatinine (simple doubling) is conveniently used as a surrogate endpoint for progression of renal disease but is thought to be biased unfairly by the initial value of serum creatinine (Scr(Int)). We proposed the definite decline in the reciprocal of serum creatinine (2-4 doubling) as a surrogate endpoint, comparing simple doubling with this new endpoint to verify the effect of Scr(Int) on the endpoint.
