Background: Treating oral problems with dentist intervention during hospitalisation may improve patients' food intake status.

Objectives: This study aimed to clarify whether convalescent rehabilitation ward inpatients in a hospital with hospital dentistry (HHD) had a better diet at discharge than those in a hospital without hospital dentistry (HNHD).

Methods: Retrospective observational study including inpatients with dental involvement in a HHD with dentists and dental hygienists and HNHD with dental hygienist and visiting dental service between 1 March and 31 August 2022.

[Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma Originated from Small Bowel Mesentery Resected under Laparoscopic Surgery-A Case Report].

A 74-year-old woman with severe anemia was presented to our hospital to investigate the cause of the disease. Under investigation, submucosal tumor in the small intestine was suspected. We performed the laparoscopic surgery for resection.

Background: Chronic constipation leads to poor quality of life, and treatment remains unsatisfactory for patients. In Japan, magnesium oxide has been commonly used as the first choice of treatment for constipation; however, there are some cases of low satisfaction with magnesium oxide treatment. Linaclotide has recently been used to treat chronic constipation.

The relationship between new PCR positive cases and going out in public during the COVID-19 epidemic in Japan.

The suppression of the first wave of COVID-19 in Japan is assumedly attributed to people's increased risk perception after acquiring information from the government and media reports. In this study, going out in public amidst the spread of COVID-19 infections was investigated by examining new polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive cases of COVID-19 and its relationship to four indicators of people going out in public (the people flow, the index of web searches for going outside, the number of times people browse restaurants, and the number of hotel guests, from the Regional Economic and Social Analysis System (V-RESAS). Two waves of COVID-19 infections were examined using cross-correlation analysis.

[A Case of Cecal Burkitt's Lymphoma with Intussusception].

We report a case of ileocecal intussusception due to Burkitt's lymphoma(BL). A 14-year-old boy was admitted to our hospital for abdominal pain and diarrhea. He was diagnosed an intussusception by the ultrasonography and the CT scan.

[A Case of Intra-Abdominal Desmoid Tumor after Laparoscopic Resection of Colon Cancer].

An 84-year-old man underwent laparoscopic descending colon resection for colon cancer with stage Ⅰ. Follow-up computed tomography(CT), 18 months after surgery showed a soft tissue density nodular mass, 30 mm in size, in the small intestinal mesentery. The surgical resection of the tumor was performed after a thorough examination.

[Stage Ⅳ HER2-Positive Breast Cancer That Showed Complete Response for Over One Year after Discontinuation of Anti-HER2 Therapy-A Case Report].

A 75-year-old woman with a left breast mass on breast cancer screening was referred to our hospital for detailed evaluation. Further examination revealed left breast cancer with metastases to the left axilla, left parasternal region, left supraclavicular fossa, mediastinum, and left hilar lymph nodes, as well as multiple lung metastases. Histopathological evaluation of a needle biopsy specimen revealed invasive ductal carcinoma(scirrhous type), and she was diagnosed with Stage Ⅳ human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2)-positive breast cancer.

[A Case of Local Recurrence 20 Years after Surgery of Ascending Colon Cancer].

The case was a 67-year-old male, who underwent right hemicolectomy+D3 LN resection for ascending colon cancer at the age of 47, and pathological diagnosis was tub1>tub2, T3, N0, M0, ly1, v1, Stage Ⅱa. 20 years after the first surgery, he visited our hospital for intermittent abdominal pain and abdominal fullness. CT scan showed stenosis and wall thickening at the anastomosis of the ileum and colon.

The rate of aging in Japan has currently exceeded 28.1%. Moreover, it is expected that the rate of aging will continue to increase in the future.

[A Case of Radiation Recall Dermatitis That Was Difficult to Distinguish from Inflammatory Breast Recurrence].

The case involved a 51-year-old woman who was diagnosed with Stage Ⅰ right breast cancer(cT1, N0, M0). Partial resection of the right breast and sentinel lymph node biopsy were performed. The histological type was found to be Stage Ⅰ triple-negative medullary carcinoma with pT1c, pN0(sn), and M0.

Pedicled jejunal flap reconstruction for partial duodenectomy: a report of two cases.

Conventional jejunal reconstruction procedures for large duodenal defects include jejunal serosal patch repair and duodenojejunostomy and have some risks of postoperative complications. The pedicled jejunal flap is used for reconstruction following laryngopharyngectomy, esophagectomy and other gastrointestinal surgeries. We report two cases of successful closure of duodenal defects after partial duodenectomies by pedicled jejunal flap reconstruction.

An Observational Study of Team Management Approach for CapeOX Therapy in Patients with Advanced and Recurrent Colorectal Cancer: SMILE Study (The Study of Metastatic colorectal cancer to investigate the Impact of Learning Effect).

Objectives: In recent years, CapeOX therapy for patients with colorectal cancer is widely used. We previously reported that a multidisciplinary approach decreases the worsening of adverse events and increases patient satisfaction. In this study, we conducted a multicenter, prospective, observational study to evaluate the incidence of adverse events, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of the patient, and efficacy of a management (intervention) according to the support system (SMILE study).

Efficacy and Safety of HDM SLIT Tablet in Japanese Adults with Allergic Asthma.

Background: The standardized quality (SQ) house dust mite (HDM) sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) tablet has demonstrated efficacy and safety for allergic asthma (AA) in European trials.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of SQ HDM SLIT tablet treatment for up to 19 months in Japanese adults with AA.

Methods: In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients aged 18 to 64 years with AA were randomly assigned (1:1:1) to SQ HDM SLIT doses of 10,000 or 20,000 Japanese Allergy Unit or placebo.

[A Case of Type 4 Ascending Colon Cancer Showing Early Postoperative Lymphangitis Carcinomatosa].

A 56-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because abdominal CT showed wall thickening of the ascending colon. Colonoscopyshowed type 4 colon cancer, diagnosed as poorlydifferentiated adenocarcinoma bybiopsy , with circumferential stenosis. Enhanced CT after admission also showed obstructive ileus and lymphadenopathy leading to a paraaortic lesion, but no other distant metastases were seen.

[A Case of Type 4 Gastric Cancer with Esophageal Invasion That Responded to Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy Containing S-1 and Oxaliplatin followed by Surgery].

We encountered a case of type 4 gastric cancer with esophageal invasion that responded to neoadjuvant chemotherapy containing S-1 and oxaliplatin(SOX)followed by surgery, which could be curative resection. A 46-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of abnormal upper gastrointestinal series findings. He was diagnosed with type 4 advanced gastric cancer with esophageal invasion, cT4b(diaphragm)N2M0, Stage ⅢC, and 3 courses of neoadjuvant SOX therapy were administered.

[A Case of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor(GIST)Originating in the Anal Canal].

We report a case of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)that originated in the anal canal. A 70's woman with a subcutaneous tumor reaching from the anal canal was referred to our hospital. After a thorough examination, the tumor was resected percutaneously in the jackknife position.

[A Case of Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer Curatively Resected Following Chemoradiotherapy].

A man in his 70s was referred to our hospital with anorexia, weight loss, and constipation. After examination by computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and colonoscopy, he was diagnosed as having a locally advanced rectal cancer with abscess formation. Because CT and MRI indicated that the tumor had invaded the seminal vesicle, prostate, and sacrum, we diagnosed it as an unresectable tumor.

[A Case of Simultaneous Laparoscopic Resection of Sigmoid Colon Cancer and Liver Metastases after Chemotherapy with Modified FOLFOX6 plus Panitumumab].

A 70s-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of sigmoid colon cancer. Computed tomography (CT) revealed a large mass in the right lobe of the liver and small masses in Couinaud segments Ⅳ and Ⅵ. We started systemic chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6 and panitumumab.

[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Extra Iliac Lymph Node Metastases].

We report a case of ascending colon cancer with right extra iliac lymph node metastases. A 60s-year-old woman underwent right hemicolectomy with lymph node dissection in July 2011. Pathological diagnosis was T4 (SE), N1 (2/42), M0, stage ⅢA.

[An Analysis of Placement of a Self-Expanding Metallic Stent as Bridge to Surgery for Surgical Resection of StageⅣ Obstructive Colorectal Cancers].

In our institution, placement of a self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) for obstructive colorectal cancer to avoid emergency operations, namely as a bridge to surgery (BTS), was introduced in April 2012. Here, we assess the efficacy and safety of pre-operative SEMS placement for treatment of Stage Ⅳ obstructive colorectal cancer. We analyzed a total of 44 cases of Stage Ⅳ colorectal cancer, which consisted of 13 obstructive cases that were surgically resected following SEMS placement as BTS (BTS group), and 31 cases that were resected in elective operations without pre-operative SEMS placement (Ope group), from April 2012 to August 2014.

Massive pneumoretroperitoneum arising from emphysematous cholecystitis: a case report and the literature review.

Background: Emphysematous cholecystitis is a severe variant of acute cholecystitis caused by anaerobic bacteria. Although intraperitoneal air as a complication has been described in association with emphysematous cholecystitis, pneumoretroperitoneum arising from emphysematous cholecystitis is extremely rare. Herein, we describe a rare case of pneumoretroperitoneum arising from emphysematous cholecystitis that was successfully treated with emergency surgery.

Hybrid laparoscopic and anterior approach for postsurgical inguinal hernia after iliofemoral arterial bypass.

Laparoscopic hernia repair has become popular due to its rapid recovery time, fewer postoperative complications, and less chronic pain compared with conventional approaches. Currently, laparoscopic hernia repair is also used for more complex pathogenesis, including extra-anatomic bypass surgery for femoral artery. To the best of our knowledge, cases of inguinal hernia after femoral arterial bypass are extremely rare.
