Nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy (NSRP) for prostate cancer (PC) enables better postoperative recovery of continence and potency but may increase the risk of positive surgical margins. This study aimed to investigate preoperative predictive factors for extracapsular extension (ECE) of PC to select patients for NSRP. We retrospectively evaluated 288 patients with PC (576 lobes) diagnosed with 12-core transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) who underwent laparoscopic or robot-assisted radical prostatectomy at our institution.

A man in his 70s visited our hospital for gross hematuria. He was diagnosed with invasive urothelial carcinoma (cT3N2M0) and underwent total cystectomy and ileum conduit construction after three courses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Eight months after the operation, the disease reoccurred in the pelvic lesion.

Generally, systemic chemotherapy is indicated for oral squamous cell carcinoma with distant metastasis and has a poor prognosis. Recently, the advent of molecular targeted drugs, such as cetuximab and immune checkpoint inhibitors, has dramatically improved prognosis, though controlling distant metastasis remains challenging. We report a case of tongue cancer in which lung metastases disappeared in the long term.

A woman in her seventies complained of chest pain during exertion and visited a local hospital. Computed tomographic scan showed right renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus extending above the diaphragm, and the patient was referred to our hospital. She was diagnosed with right renal cell carcinoma cT3cN0M0, with level IV IVC thrombus by Mayo classification.

Usefulness of Biparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging Combined With Prostate Specific Antigen Density in Pre-biopsy Detection of Clinically Insignificant Prostate Cancer.

Background/aim: The aim of this study was to identify simple and reliable factors to detect clinically insignificant prostate cancer (PC) for avoiding immediate prostate biopsies using biparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which consists of T2-weighted and diffusion-weighted imaging.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 427 men with suspected PC, who underwent biparametric MRI and standard 12-core transrectal prostate biopsy. MRI and prostate specific antigen density (PSAD) were analysed.

Successful management of a fistula between an external iliac artery and an ileal conduit with endovascular embolization and vascular bypass.

Introduction: Fistula formation between an ileac artery and an ileal conduit after radical cystectomy is a rare complication.

Case Presentation: A 72-year-old woman underwent laparoscopic radical cystectomy with ileal conduit. After surgery, leakage of ileal-ureteral anastomosis with infection was observed.

Objective: Oral leukoplakia is keratinized lesions in the buccal mucosa, tongue, and gingiva. It is the most common oral precancerous lesion; oxidative stresses and irrelevant autophagy have been reported to be the cause of oncogenesis. p62, a cytoplasmic protein induced by oxidative stress, is an adaptor protein involved in the formation of protein aggregates and induction and inhibition of autophagy.

Background/aim: The aim of the study was to identify the reliable predictor for early recovery of urinary continence (UC) after non-nerve-sparing laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (NNS-LRP) according to the findings of pre- and postoperative imaging.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis of 215 patients who underwent NNS-LRP was carried out. Early recovery of UC was defined as using no pads or one security pad per day within 3 months.

Highly Coordinated Iron and Cobalt Nitrides Synthesized at High Pressures and High Temperatures.

Highly coordinated iron and cobalt nitrides were successfully synthesized via direct chemical reaction between a transition metal and molecular nitrogen at pressures above approximately 30 GPa using a laser-heated diamond anvil cell. The synthesized novel transition metal nitrides were found to crystallize into the NiAs-type or marcasite-type structure. NiAs-type FeN could be quenched at ambient pressure, although it was gradually converted to the ZnS-type structure after the pressure was released.
