Agarwood essential oil (AEO) has gained attention from healthcare industries due to its numerous pharmacological properties. However, a comprehensive understanding of the chemical composition and its cytotoxic property is lacking. The objective of this study was to investigate the chemical profile as well as the cytotoxic concentration range of AEO derived from Aquilaria sinensis agarwood.

Practice Implications of Colonoscopic Investigation of Microscopic Colitis in Patients Above 50 Years of Age Presenting With Chronic Diarrhoea: A Multi-Centre Review.

Background Patients with an unknown cause for chronic diarrhoea will usually undergo a colonoscopy as part of the investigative work-up, and it is acceptable practice for the patients to undergo random biopsies. The optimum number of biopsies has yet to be established. This study investigated the implications of routine random biopsies for diagnosing microscopic colitis in patients 50 years and older who presented with chronic diarrhoea.

Patients' views and experiences on the supported self-management/patient-initiated follow up pathway for breast cancer.

Purpose: To explore patients' expectations and experience of Supportive Self-Management (SSM)/ Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) following breast cancer treatments over a 12-month period.

Methods: In total, 32/110 (29%) patient participants in the PRAGMATIC (Patients' experiences of a suppoRted self-manAGeMent pAThway In breast Cancer) study were interviewed at baseline, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Interviews in this sub-study used a mix-methods approach to explore understanding of the pathway, confidence in self-management, triggers to seek help and/or re-engage with the clinical breast team and impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Developmental outcomes for survivors of placental laser photocoagulation for the management of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.

Background: Fetoscopic laser coagulation of placental anastomoses reverses the pathological process in twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, thereby increasing survival, but there are a paucity of studies addressing long-term neurodevelopmental outcome of survivors. This study aimed to ascertain the presence of neurodevelopmental disabilities in child survivors of monochorionic pregnancies managed by placental laser photocoagulation in the Australian state of Victoria.

Methods: All pregnancies undergoing placental laser photocoagulation with the Victorian Fetal Therapy Service between 2006-2017 were included.

Patients' experiences of a suppoRted self-manAGeMent pAThway In breast Cancer (PRAGMATIC): quality of life and service use results.

Purpose: To describe trends and explore factors associated with quality of life (QoL) and psychological morbidity and assess breast cancer (BC) health service use over a 12-month period for patients joining the supported self-management (SSM)/patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) pathway.

Methods: Participants completed questionnaires at baseline, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months that measured QoL (FACT-B, EQ 5D-5L), self-efficacy (GSE), psychological morbidity (GHQ-12), roles and responsibilities (PRRS) and service use (cost diary).

Results: 99/110 patients completed all timepoints; 32% (35/110) had received chemotherapy.

Influence of foetal position on the degree of isolated antenatal hydronephrosis.

Backgrounds: The effect of foetal position on the degree of antenatal hydronephrosis (ANH) is unknown. We hypothesized that foetal position is an important contextual factor in ANH, with consequences on prenatal counselling and postnatal management. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of foetal position on the degree of ANH.

Methodology Self-reported SIC practice among DiT (N=1,652) across three metropolitan health service regions in Western Australia (WA) was surveyed using a de-identified 20-item multiple response ranking, dichotomous quantitative and qualitative online survey.

Background Sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease (SPD) is a common general surgical condition encountered in practice and predominantly affects young males. Surgical practice parameters for the management of SPD are variable. This study aimed to review current surgical practice parameters for SPD management in Western Australia.

Subjective and Objective Sonographic Assessment for the Prenatal Detection of Neonatal Coarctation of the Aorta.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to assess the performance of antenatal ultrasound markers in detecting neonatal coarctation of the aorta (CoA).

Methods: We performed a retrospective study including fetuses with suspected CoA and no other cardiac abnormalities. Data obtained from antenatal ultrasounds included subjective assessment of ventricular and arterial asymmetry, appearance of aortic arch, presence of a persistent left superior vena cava, and objective Z-score measurements of the mitral, tricuspid, aortic (AV), and pulmonary (PV) valves.

Colonic bowel prep and body mass index: does one size fit all? A multi-centre review.

Purpose: To investigate whether body mass index (BMI) is a risk factor for inadequate bowel preparation in elective colonoscopy. The null hypothesis being BMI does not affect bowel preparation adequacy.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study of all participants with complete medical records who had an elective colonoscopy was conducted across three tertiary teaching hospitals in Perth, Western Australia, from January 2016 to July 2019.

Colonoscopy follow-up for acute diverticulitis: a multi-centre review.

Background: To investigate the value of routine colonoscopy, post-computed tomography (CT) confirmed diverticulitis. The current practice is to scope patients 6-8 weeks post an episode of acute diverticulitis. We hypothesise that this practice has a relatively low value.

The ability to study cancer-immune cell communication across the whole tumor section without tissue dissociation is needed, especially for cancer immunotherapy development, which requires understanding of molecular mechanisms and discovery of more druggable targets. In this work, we assembled and evaluated an integrated experimental framework and analytical process to enable genome-wide scale discovery of ligand-receptors potentially used for cellular crosstalks, followed by targeted validation. We assessed the complementarity of four different technologies: single-cell RNA sequencing and Spatial transcriptomic (measuring over >20,000 genes), RNA Hybridization (RNAscope, measuring 4-12 genes) and Opal Polaris multiplex protein staining (4-9 proteins).

Bacterial diversity and community structure shapes pederin polymorphism but lacks association with host genotype specificity in the rove beetle, Paederus fuscipes.

Paederus beetles are notorious for their irritant haemolymph toxin pederin, which is synthesised by an unculturable bacterial symbiont, causing dermatitis when in contact with human skin. Pederin polymorphism is observed when (+) females carrying the toxin pederin and (-) females lacking this co-occur in natural populations. Despite reports detecting pederin polymorphism in several Paederina beetles, symbiont infection frequencies in their natural populations and the bacterial diversity differences underlying the polymorphism between these female types are understudied.

Mechanomyography and tissue oxygen saturation during electrically-evoked wrist extensor fatigue in people with tetraplegia.

Background: Repetitive electrically-evoked muscle contractions lead to the early onset of muscle fatigue. This study assessed the relationship between muscle mechanomyography (%RMS-MMG) and tissue oxygen saturation (%TSI) in extensor carpi radialis (ECR) during electrically-evoked fatiguing exercise in individuals with tetraplegia.

Methods: Skin-surface mechanomyography (MMG) and near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) sensors were placed on the ECR of seven individuals with tetraplegia.

Exploring the use of virtual laboratory simulations before, during, and post COVID-19 recovery phase: An Animal Biotechnology case study.

This study presents an evaluation of integrating virtual laboratory simulations in assessment design of a biotechnology course at Taylor's University in Malaysia before, during and post-COVID recovery phases. The purpose was to investigate how virtual laboratory simulations were integrated as part of the assessments of a practical-embedded course-the aim being to evaluate students' acceptance and perception of using virtual simulation. A total of 46 students, across three different study cohorts (August 2019, March 2020, and August 2020) were evaluated different educational aspects of using virtual laboratory cases in a 4-week course within Animal Biotechnology.

Multifaceted interactions between the pseudomonads and insects: mechanisms and prospects.

Insects and bacteria are the most widespread groups of organisms found in nearly all habitats on earth, establishing diverse interactions that encompass the entire range of possible symbiotic associations from strict parasitism to obligate mutualism. The complexity of their interactions is instrumental in shaping the roles of insects in the environment, meanwhile ensuring the survival and persistence of the associated bacteria. This review aims to provide detailed insight on the multifaceted symbiosis between one of the most versatile bacterial genera, Pseudomonas (Gammaproteobacteria: Pseudomonadaceae) and a diverse group of insect species.
